I took German in high school and learned that I love languages. It was there that I was given the
opportunity to go to Germany and live with a family for three weeks. I later took German in college
and spent a summer in Darmstadt, Germany. I have a good friend from my first trip to Germany
almost twenty-five years ago. She visited Cookeville in 2007 and 2009 and loves Cracker
Barrel. I was able to visit her during fall break this year. She sends me lots of items to share with the
classroom. She also taught me how to make Lebkuchen when she was here. It is a joy to share the
German language and culture with students. Germany is the powerhouse of Europe. I hope my
classes open up not only Germany, but also the world.
I am a Nashville native, but now am a happy Cookevillian since 2002. My husband, Doug, teaches
computer science at Tennessee Tech. I have a daughter and a son, ages 11 and 8 respectively. My
daughter is in 6th grade, and my son is in 4th grade.
I teach at Avery Trace Middle School in the afternoons. If you need to reach me, please call Algood
from 8:00 a.m.-10:00 and at Avery Trace from 11:15-3:00.
You can learn a foreign language! Don't be afraid of it. It will open the world to you.
