What do I do if my child is absent?
Please call the office and ask for your child's work. I will
have it in the office by 2:45 p.m. This will help to keep your
child from falling behind in daily lessons. Please realize that
sometimes it is impossible to do some of the things at home that
are done in class. Please make every effort to have your child
at school each day unless he/she is truly sick.
Please write a note to excuse your child from his/her absence
and send it the day your child returns to school. If a doctor
visit is necessary, your child's doctor will give you a note for
your child to return to school. Please sign and date the note.
May I send birthday treats to school?
At Algood Elementary School, we do not have birthday parties at
school. You may NOT sent cupcakes, cookies, doughnuts, etc. to
school on your child's birthday. If you would like to send
a "treat bag" that will be sent HOME with each child in the
class, that is fine. There will be no "invitations" given out
at school. If you want to invite someone to a birthday party,
please invite from home. Teachers cannot give out private
information on a child. Thanks for your cooperation!
When do we have spelling tests?
Each child will receive a new spelling list each Friday with a
test given the following Friday. A bonus word and a bonus
sentence will be included on the newsletter each week.
Do we have a daily snack?
No... we do not have a daily snack. Water bottles are permitted
throughout the day. (NO FLAVORED WATER!!)
Do I need to check my child's S.T.A.R. folder each day?
Yes, please check your child's daily folder. Sign the
newsletter each day in the signature column. Please leave
the "Return to School" items in the folder each day. You may
take out the "Keep at Home" work on the right side of the folder.
Will my child have homework each night?
Yes, your child should read for 10 minutes each night. He/she
should practice math facts for 10 minutes each night, and he/she
should review word wall words and vocabulary words each night
for 10 minutes. Also, review social studies / science study
guides that will be in the folder.
When is the best time to talk to you about concerns regarding my child?
Each morning is very busy and hectic with daily routines. If
you need to meet or talk to me, please feel free to call the
office and leave me a message with a contact number. I will
return your call asap! You may e-mail me... I check e-mails
daily! You may send a note in the daily folder. I check those
each morning. If we need to set up a conference, we will do
so after school or during my planning time. Your concerns are
so important to me! I WILL make time for you!
