Weekly News for February 13-17, 2012

*Don’t forget that your Valentine’s Day mailbox & your cards are due in class on Monday, Feb. 13th.  
We will pass out valentines throughout the day during free time. 

READING:  “Yippee-Yay!” A Book About Cowboys and Cowgirls  
Skills:  To distinguish main idea and supporting details in expository text; read and understand 
nonfiction selection  
Vocabulary:  ranchers, tending, profit, corral, stray, market

SPELLING:  Skill:  syllable patterns vccv words      
cowboy, horses, corral, winter, always, cactus, garden, 
tender, fifteen, basket, welcome, lasso, market, until, Monday, pillows, curtain, feather, mattress, 
bedspread  **diagrams  
**Leather chaps protected their legs from cattle horns, rope burns, scratches, and scrapes.

ENGLISH:  Skill: To use main & helping verbs correctly                                
A helping verb works with the main verb to tell about an action.  The words have, has, and had 
are often used as helping verbs.    (Example:  The cowboys have startled the horse.)

MATH:  Multiplication, Division & Fractions
