Homework

Your child will be writing each letter (upper and lower case) as I introduce them during phonics 
lessons. Every letter is formed by starting at the top and going down. I will focus on forming the 
letters correctly, and also on helping your child hold the pencil the correct way. They are writing their 
first and last name, sight words, family words, and short sentences on lined paper. We are also 
journaling focussing on sentence structure, capitals, and punctuation.  We are writing numbers 0-100.
We and learning simple addition with sums to ten. This includes addition vocabulary such as add, plus, 
equals, sum, and addition number sentence. We are memorizing doubles (1+1, 2+2, 3+3, 4+4, 5+5). 
We are learning simple subtraction with differences to ten.  This includes subtraction vocabulary such 
as subtract, left, minus, difference, subtraction number sentence. Understanding the connection of the 
numbers 1-100 is so important to number sense, and we will work with the 100 board for several 
weeks. They need to name and write numbers out of order, name numbers before and after, numbers 
between, and recognize and write numbers by 2's, 5's, and 10's. 


***INDEX CARDS used as flash cards are a great way to review recognition of letters, numbers, sight   
     words, and words we are sounding out.
