Lexington High School will be giving the ASVAB on February 7thin the school auditorium. Students in the 11thor 12thgrade interested in taking the test need to sign up in the counselor’s office. The ASVAB provides useful career information feedback to testers.
LHS students enrolled in a dual course with JSCC need to fill out the dual enrollment grant as soon as possible. The grant application must be filled out online at tn.gov/collegepays. The counselors will be glad to help students needing assistance completing the grant.
The LHS counselors, along with the Ayers Foundation counselor, will be hosting a College Goal Sunday on January 29th. Any parent of a senior student needing assistance completing the FAFSA is welcome. Parents need to bring their most recent year completed tax return and their W-2’s for 2011. This event will be held in the Library from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
The 11thgrade Writing Assessment will be given on February 1st. All junior students throughout the state will be tested on their writing ability that day. Parents, please help prepare your student by insuring a good breakfast the day of testing as well as a good nights rest prior to testing.

Report cards for the first semester will be passed out during the learning enrichment block on Thursday, January 12th. Credit recovery and tutoring information will be attached to the report cards. Credit recovery begins on Wednesday, January 18th, in Susan Walker’s classroom. Sessions for credit recovery will be held each Monday and Wednesday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
The University of Tennessee at Martin will have a representative on campus Friday during learning enrichment and lunch block to speak with students interested in UTM. A booth will be set up in the lobby and junior and senior students are welcome to stop by and visit. Information relating to entrance requirements and application deadlines will be available.
The National Wild Turkey Federation Scholarship deadline is approaching. Students with a 3.0 GPA, possessing a Tennessee hunting license, and having membership with the NTWF are eligible to submit an application. The deadline to submit an application is January 25th. Students needing more information need to see one of the counselors.
The next ACT test offered at LHS will be given on February 11th. The registration deadline is January 13th. Registration can be completed online atwww.actstudent.org.
The Lexington High School and Ayers Foundations counselors will be hosting a College Goal Sunday again this year. This annual event takes place the last Sunday of January. Its purpose is to assist parents with completing the FAFSA. This year the College Goal Sunday will be held in the school library from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 29th. Parents will need to bring a copy of their W-2, 2011 tax return, or a copy of their 2010 tax return. For more information contact the counselor’s office or Travis Hartle of the Ayers Foundation.

Happy New Years greeting from Lexington High School. Second semester classes began today. Students requesting a change of schedule need to fill out a ‘schedule change’ request form during LE, and submit the form to their teacher. Requests will be dealt with individually and students will be called to the office to meet with their counselor to discuss the request.
Report cards for the first semester will be sent home on January 12th. Information relating to credit recovery and tutoring will be attached to the report cards. If additional information is needed, please contact your child’s counselor.
The next ACT test offered at LHS will be given on February 11th. The registration deadline is January 13th. Registration can be completed online atwww.actstudent.org.
Now is the time to submit the FAFSA online. All students graduating from high school this year and planning to attend an institution of higher learning will need to complete the FAFSA in order to be eligible for financial aid. Parents can make an appointment with Travis Hartle, the Ayers Foundation Counselor, for help in completing the FAFSA. He can be reached at 968-2961, ext. 6080.

Greetings from the Lexington High School counselor’s office! Parents of tenth grade students, please make plans to attend the ACT Plan information session this Thursday night in the LHS auditorium. The session will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will conclude no later than 7:30 p.m. ACT Plan scores will be passed out to parents and the results will be discussed. Also, strategies relating to raising ACT scores will be addressed.
Lexington High School has a new website this year that contains a range of information about the school. Teachers and staff email addresses are linked from the site. The school calendar and handbook are available for viewing along with a number of other documents related to programs at LHS. Any student interested in the Governor’s School for Computational Physics at Austin Peay can visit Mr. Hartle for more information. The school will be held during the summer and will award seven hours of college credit. Information concerning scholarships and college admissions questions may be found on the Lexington High School Ayers Foundation facebook page, or by contacting Mr. Hartle personally.
The last day to sign up for the December ACT test date without having to pay a late fee is November 4th. Seniors you are reminded that most colleges will not accept ACT scores past this date. You can sign up online at www.actstudent.org.

Lexington High School administered the ACT Plan test to all tenth grade students on October 5th of this year. The test score results have now been returned to the school. The counselor’s office will host an ACT meeting on November 3rd to discuss and pass out the student reports. This meeting will be held in the auditorium and will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Grades for the first nine weeks reporting period have been finalized and report cards will be sent home on Thursday, October 20th. Report cards will be passed out during the Learning Enrichment block. Students with a failing grade on their report card will have a credit recovery form attached. Credit recovery and tutoring will begin next week. If you have questions relating to tutoring or credit recovery, please contact your child’s counselor.
LHS will be giving a school wide ACT practice test to all students Thursday, October 20th. This test is a part of the school testing initiative to raise test scores. Student scores will be compared to projected scores to determine areas of needed intervention and focus.
Saturday, October 22nd, LHS will be giving the ACT test to all registered participants. Those testing should arrive at 7:45 a.m., bring identification and their ACT admissions ticket, and enter the school through the main entrance by the cafeteria. The next test date is December 10th , with a registration deadline of November 4th.
Students interested in attending UT Knoxville are reminded that November 1, 2011 is the application deadline to be eligible for scholarships. The scholarship application deadline for MTSU is December 1st. If you have any questions relating to scholarships or college admissions, please contact Travis Hartle of the Ayers Foundation. Travis ably serves Lexington High School in the role of college access counselor.

These days can be very effective in helping determine the right school choice.

This is an excellent scholarship that has been won locally in the past. Also, other scholarship information, admissions deadlines, entrance requirements and cost of post-secondary education can be located by visiting the LHS Ayers office Facebook page.

The PLAN test scores are used as an aid in class placement for the junior and senior years, and to determine eligibility for dual enrollment classes with JSCC. Students will test during the morning from 8:00 to 11:30 a.m.

The regular deadline to register has passed, however the late deadline, requiring an additional fee, is September 30th. Lexington High School will be hosting its annual fall semester parent teacher conference from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday September 15th. Teachers, administrators, and counselors will be available to meet with parents and discuss student progress. It is not necessary to make an appointment, and you are encouraged to attend! Students will not be in school on Thursday or Friday this week and will be out of school Monday, September 19th as well, due to parent teacher conference and staff development.
LHS will host parent portal training sessions Thursday from 3:00 to 3:30 p.m. and again from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. in room 143. Parents interested in learning how to access and navigate the parent portal website are welcome to attend. Parent portal allows parents to view their students’ schedule, attendance, grades, discipline, and academic history. It is an excellent communication tool that allows parents to stay abreast of their students’ progress. Refreshments will be provided by the school for this parent involvement event.

More than 30 different colleges and universities are expected to attend. The college fair offers the opportunity for students and parents to learn more about colleges, trade schools, and military options. All senior students will have a designated time to attend. In order to be eligible to go the student must meet the UTM admissions requirements which are a 21 on the ACT and a GPA of 2.5, OR an 18 on the ACT and a GPA of 2.85. Students that meet the admissions requirements will soon be receiving an invitation and permission slip. Space is limited so seats will be awarded on a first come first serve basis. Students will need money for breakfast and lunch.
