Family and Consumer Science education provides individuals and families with
essential knowledge and skills for managing the challenges of living in a
diverse, global society. Students learn relevant information applied to
personal life along with traditional/non-traditional career options.
This course is for male and female students. It is a course that deals with
real-life situations and survival skills necessary for personal and family
life. This is a core class that provides a foundation for concepts in
Foods/Nutrition, Child Development, Textiles, Housing Principles, Consumer
Education and Interpersonal Communication.
ADULT LIVING goes beyond the core knowledge with a focus on the
responsibilities of adulthood, finance, personal budgeting, interpersonal
relationships, parenting, job skills and career research. It is recommended
for Juniors and Seniors. Students should have the FACS course before taking
another course in sequence within the FACS curriculum to gain the basic
skills and competencies for continuing progress.
Both courses are highly recommended for all students!

CONCENTRATION status. Some are offered on a rotation basis. (Examples are
Housing and Interiors, Interior Design, Culinary, Foods and Nutrition,
Nutrition Science, Adult Living, Textiles, Child Development, Interpersonal

This course includes lessons related to personal finance, clothing care,
maintenance and selection,housing and interior design, architecture, child
care studies/career education which focus on high wage, high demand
occupations along with self improvement including meal management-nutrition
based instruction. Math and science application that is relevant to your
learing and retention throughout your life cycle.
