Family Reading Suggestions

·         Make the public library a regular part of your child’s life.

·         Value and appreciate reading yourself setting an excellent example for your child.

·         Set aside a regular time to read.

·         Read together.

·         Explain meanings of words that may be unfamiliar to your child.

·         Select reading material that your child will enjoy.

·         Share the reading experience allowing your child to read familiar or repetitive parts.

·         Ask questions about the story during and after the reading.

·         Review what was read with your child.

·         Encourage your child to read.

·         Be enthusiastic during the reading experience using different character voices, etc.

·         Encourage the reading experience with praise.

·         Remember that reading can be a lifetime adventure if your child can find true joy in reading.

We have many titles available in our library to assist with a variety of parenting needs.  Stop on by and take a look! 

Parent/Child Shared Reading Books Available

We also have books available in our library for self-help/therapy that parents and children can share to together--such as death of a family member, illness, or self-esteem, as well as typical "kids behaviors" (bossiness, cheating, manners, lying, etc).
