Homework

Any help from home is always greatly appreciated!

Please check your scholar's binder/planner daily for homework assingnments.

Reading and practicing math facts are always encouraged!

There are pages in the front of your child's binder that have suggestions of
how to help your child with reading and word study. These ideas can be used
throughout the year.

Any time you can reinforce and practice math is helpful. Your scholar should
be able to read clocks, thermometers, and graphs. Ask your
child to read an analog (clock face)clock, giving you the time in two ways:
3:45/quarter to 4. Discuss the outdoor temperature and what kind of clothing
is worn to be comfortable. Ask your child to gather data with family and
friends, then graph the results with a bar or pictograph: favorite ice cream
flavors, numbers of pets, etc. Practicing addition, subtraction, and
multiplication facts will help your child with problem solving. Do you have
a tape measure, ruler, or yardstick? Ask your child to measure things around
the house using customary (inch, feet, yards) or metric (cenitmeters,
decimeters, meters) units. Your child can also figure the perimeter of table
tops, doorways, windows, etc. When you get ready to plant a garden, your
scholar can help you figure out the perimeter and area for fencing and soil
coverage!

If your child takes a textbook home, it is important to be returned daily.
If a textbook is lost or damaged, a fine will need to be paid. The textbooks
are not to be written in. It is also important that the books are not to be
used as a hard surface on which to write. The pages and/or cover will be
damaged with pressure from the pencil.

Third grade students are EXPECTED to be reading a MINIMUM of 90 minutes per
week from an appropriately leveled book. Your child should be filling out
the reading log in his/her binder, but please initial the minutes to verify
the reading was done. Please contact your child's teacher with any questions
you may have.
