What Does a Room Parent of Room Helper Do?
Room Parents and Helpers support the teachers'
work with our children. A Room Parent works closely with the teacher to keep
up-to-date with planned classroom activities and learns how parents can help.
The Room Parent, along with the Room Parent Helper, informs classroom parents
of volunteer needs in the classroom and coordinates volunteer resources in the
classroom.
Parents usually help by providing healthy
refreshments for events, chaperoning a field trip, talking to the class about
their career and/or college experience and helping out on Field Day. Party
Helpers are also needed to serve and aassist at any of the three classroom
parties traditionally scheduled for Anderson Mill Students: the Winter
Holiday Party (on the last day of school before Winter Break), a Valentines
Day Party and the End of School Party. The Room Parent also coordinates the
classes' participation in Teacher Appreciation Events.
In order to share upcoming events and classroom
needs, the Room Parent will ask for parent's contact information (phone number
and/or email addresses). PTA encourages all parents to provide this
information.
Volunteering in the classroom is sure to be fun,
very rewarding, a way to meet your child's friends and their parents, and is
always much appreciated by teachers. If you haven't signed up as a Classroom
or Party Helper, or if you would like to be the Home Room Parent, please
contact Kirstin Seale, PTA President at 258-3363 (between 9-7). Information
about who your Room Parent and Helpers are is available from Anderson Mill's
website at www.roundrockisd.org/andersonmill, Parent Resources, PTA,
Committees.
