Spelling Homework Menu

For spelling homework, please choose a different spelling assignment to complete each night.  Below you will find your choices, and on the following pages you will find the exact directions as to how the assignments are to be completed.

Unless stated otherwise, all spelling homework is done in the spelling homework notebook, and stays in the spelling homework notebook. You will need to use the fronts and backs of each page so that you don’t run out of pages. Please remember to write the date at the top of each page. 

 

Alphabetical (ABC) order

·         In your spelling homework notebook, list spelling words alphabetically

o        Ant

o        Ball

o        Cat

 

3 Times Each

·         In your spelling homework notebook, write each spelling word 3 times

o        Ant

o        Ant

o        Ant

 

Sand/Dirt Writing

·         Using your finger or a stick, write each spelling word in the sand or dirt.

·         Parents please write the following phrase on the next clean page in your child’s spelling homework notebook so that I know spelling homework was completed:

o        My child wrote all their spelling words in the sand/dirt.

 

Painted Words

·         Using paints, write each spelling word on a sheet of painting paper. (NOT in your spelling homework notebook)

·         Parents please write the following phrase on the next clean page in your child’s spelling homework notebook so that I know spelling homework was completed:

o        My child painted all their spelling words.

 

Sentences

·         In your spelling homework notebook, write a sentence for each spelling word.  Please underline the spelling word.

o        I like to go to the park with my friends.

 

Rainbow Words

·         In your spelling homework notebook, use crayons, colored pencils or pens to write each spelling word in a different color.

o        Ant

o        Banana

o        Friend

 

 

Red Vowels

·         In your spelling homework notebook, write each spelling word in pencil.

·         Use a red crayon, colored pencil or pen to trace over the vowels.

Blue Consonants

·         In your spelling homework notebook, write each spelling word in pencil.

·         Use a blue crayon, colored pencil or pen to trace over the consonants.

Written Practice Test

·         Have your parent read you each spelling word as you write them in your spelling homework notebook, without looking at the list.

 

Salty Words

·         Have your parents pour some salt onto a cookie sheet.

·         Write each spelling word in the salt.

·         Parents please write the following phrase on the next clean page in your child’s spelling homework notebook so that I know spelling homework was completed:

o        My child wrote all their spelling words in the salt.

 

Typing

·         Using the computer, type each of your spelling words.

·         Print a copy of your work and glue it into your spelling homework notebook.

 

Sidewalk Chalk

·         Use sidewalk chalk to write each one of your spelling words on the sidewalk.

·         Parents please write the following phrase on the next clean page in your child’s spelling homework notebook so that I know spelling homework was completed:

o        My child used sidewalk chalk to write all their spelling words.

 

Rhyming Words

·         In your spelling homework notebook write each of your spelling words.

·         Next to each spelling word, write as many rhyming words as you can thing of.

o        Cat   mat, fat, sat, bat

o        Shoe    blue, new, flew

 

Shaving Cream Writing

·         Have your parents spray some shaving cream onto table or piece of wax paper.

·         Write each spelling word in the shaving cream.

·         Parents please write the following phrase on the next clean page in your child’s spelling homework notebook so that I know spelling homework was completed:

o        My child worte all their spelling words in shaving cream.

 

Silly Sentences

·         In your spelling homework notebook, write 1 silly sentence for each spelling word.  Please underline the spelling word.

o        My dinosaur eats chocolate ice cream while jumping on a trampoline.

 

Word Illustrations

·         In your spelling homework notebook, write each spelling word and then draw a picture of the word.

·         Please only use this choice if you are able to illustrate all the spelling words.

Story

·         In your spelling homework notebook, write a story using each of your spelling words.  Please underline your spelling words.

 

Triangle Words

·         In your spelling homework notebook, write the first letter of the first spelling word.

·         On the next line, write the first two letters of your first spelling word.

·         Continue this process until the word is spelled.

·         Repeat for the remaining spelling words.

Oral Practice Test

·         Have your parent read you each spelling word as you spell them out loud without looking at the list.

·         In your spelling homework notebook, write each of your spelling words.
