About The Teacher

This is my eighth year as a third grade teacher at Blackland Prairie. I
taught previously at Wells Branch Elem. in fourth grade for eight years,so
this makes my 15th year as a Round Rock teacher.
Other states where I have taught are Arizona and Illinois grades K, 2, 3 &
5. Third grade has always been my favorite.

I attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL where I received
both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Elementary Education. I have
always enjoyed attending college level classes to learn more about my world
so that I can share with my students, therefore I have about 65 hours above
my
Master's
degree.

My family consists of husband, Bob, and children Brad, 31 years, and
Jessica, 27 years (turns 28 in October). Brad is attending Texas Tech, and
Jessi graduated from UT in December 2006, and now attends
Law School at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. I am very proud of
Jessica because she was on the Dean's List in Law School as a freshman. She
is excited about beginning her third and final year in law.
Bob and I have a dog, four cats (didn't plan this many, it just happened),
and two aquatic frogs. Our cats are not allowed outside, however, I have
trapped, neutered, and spayed homeless neighborhod cats. This year I lost my
beautiful EX-Momma cat and her calico (grown and spayed) kitten that would
arrive for breakfast and dinner every day. The saddest day this summer was
when my cat pal, Sammy, passed away. Bob and I enjoy
watching the different birds raise their families in our backyard trees or
on the porch--barn swallows. The porch gets a little messy, but the
swallows certainly keep the mosquito and insect population under control in
my yard. My flowering plants attract many hummingbirds, and I added a second
hummingbird feeder this summer. Each summer we are visited by doves,
cardinals, finches, sparrows, and of course, grackles. There were a few that
I didn't recognize and need a bird guide to birds of TExas. Thanks to my
students in the past years for presenting me with two more bird feeders for
my front yard, I watch birds in the winter and early spring, too. One flock
that arrived this spring was made up of red-winged blackbirds. I was very
excited because I had not seen this particular bird since I moved from
Illinois many long years ago. I strongly advise children to give the the tv
a rest and explore your natural world just outside your front (or back)
door. This very long, hot summer saw me add two chidren's wading pools (1 in
front 1 in back) for the birds and small animals to have a drink.
