Welcome to Blackland Prairie and my Kindergarten class! I am
excited to have you and your family be a part of our school
family.
I am from San Antonio, but have traveled the world since I was
sixteen, living in three different countries, including Austria,
Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom. I have also traveled throughout
the United States and visited many areas of Europe, South America,
the Middle East, North Africa and Asia. These experiences have magnified
the value of diversity, helping me to appreciate the contributions of
other cultures.
I have a B.A. from the University of Texas in Middle Eastern Studies
and a Masters of Education from Texas State University. The 2011-2012
school year will be my fifth at Blackland Prairie.
My son, Joshua, will attend Cedar Ridge High School as a freshman and
my daughter, Rebecca, will be a junior at George Washington University
in D.C.. I have recently remarried and now have twin stepdaughters, Gem
and Sky, in the fifth grade. My husband, Wayne, and I also share our home
with Ginger, our calico cat.
Besides traveling, I enjoy reading and writing when I have time, scrapbooking, visiting museums, watching movies and eating different types of food. I get my exercise doing yoga and skiing and snowboarding (still learning) when possible. I am a big theatre fan and a frequent visitor at
the Blanton Art Museum.

My Teaching Plan

1) Constantly expose students to a variety of authors and genres from
around the world and throughout history to foster a love of reading.
2) Implement differential learning strategies to address the needs of
all students. 3) Execute an effective behavior management plan incorporating appropriate consequences and a reward system while maintaining mutual respect and dignity. 4) Design creative lesson plans using an inquiry approach that make learning exciting and relevant on a daily basis. 5) Interweave the Arts into lessons whenever possible. 6) Value diversity and other cultures by revealing the world beyond the local campus.
