Is there a rest time?

Yes.Students work more effectively when they have periods of
activity and
quiet. We use a bath towel for rest time, since they can be
washed easily
and folded up for storage.

Can students buy hot lunch?

Yes, after the first few weeks of school. We ask parents to send
lunch
boxes in the beginning to ease the transition and make lunch go
more
smoothly. After a few weeks, when students are more comfortable
with school
routines, we'll teach them the process for buying lunch.

Can I have lunch with my child?

Yes, after a few weeks. In the beginning we like students to get
used to
the routine. We often find that seeing their parents in the
middle of the
day causes a tearful separation after lunch that is hard on both
parent and
child.

Why is my child acting cranky?

It's a long day, with a lot of new routines and procedures and
people to get
used to. It takes some time-for each child it is a different
amount-for new
students to adjust to the complexities of the school
environment. They are
very tired physically and emotionally from learning all the
new "stuff."
Listen to them, reassure them and give them time to grow into the
school day. Research shows that kindergartners ned between 10-12
hours of sleep each night.

What did you learn today?

When your student returns home and you ask "What did you learn
today?", you
are letting your child know that school is a place for
learning. "Did you
have fun today?" doesn't carry the same connotation for the
purpose of
school. You can have fun while learning things, but learning is
the main
goal.

Is my child making friends?

Each child has different requirements for feeling comfortable
enough to
start making new friends. Ask your child who likes to play with
blocks, "Did you see anyone playing with blocks? Maybe you can
ask him/her
to play blocks with you tomorrow."

What should I do if my child's transportation home changes?

You can write a note and send it in the morning with your child.
If you
have an unexpected change during the day, please call the office
(428-3000)
and the office will let me know. If you call or email, I may not
get to it
due to meetings and the phone is set on voice mail during the
day. We want
to keep your child safe.
