Discovering Children's Poetry

Below you will find links to several poetry sites for you to choose from. As
you visit each link, you may explore that site, but DO NOT follow links to
other sites. Choose two sites (of the first four listed) to explore in depth
and answer the following questions on your own paper.

1. List the two websites you explored.
2. In your opinion, which one was the best?
3. What made this website appealing? (Hint: think about the screen layout,
ease of use, and interesting content.)

Comparing the Work of Three Poets

Visit the Poetry Writing Lessons site from the above list. Three poets are
listed, Jack Prelutsky, Karla Kuskin, and Jean Marzollo. To read a sample of
their poetry, click on the poets picture, then choose My Poem. To get back
to the list of poets, click the back arrow browser twice. Read each of the
three poems. On your own paper, write the title and poet of the poem you
like best and describe why you chose it over the two others.

If you still have time remaining, you may explore the four poetry websites
listed above, searching for your poetry term examples (simile, metaphor,
alliteration, personification, and onomatopoeia) or a poem that you can
memorize and recite.
