When can I eat lunch with my child?

Beginning the third week of school, parents are welcome to eat lunch with
their student any time. Please make sure that you meet your child in the cafeteria. Please remember
that this time is a wonderful
opportunity for your child to develop his or her friendship skills.
Consequently, you and your child might develop a schedule of when you will be
coming to eat lunch.

Do I need to provide a snack for my child?

Your child may bring a healthy snack each day. You are responsible for
sending snacks for your own child.

Your child needs to bring a sports bottle of water to drink throughout the
day. Please refrain from sending juices or any other type of drink for
classroom use.

Please remember that snack is a brief time in our classroom. Your child
should bring 1 item. Appropriate snacks would be: crackers, fruit roll-up,
fruit or granola bar. Please do not send fruit cups, yogurt, pudding, juice
box or candy.

How does dismissal work?

School is dismissed at 2:45. Students are escorted by teachers to their
dismissal areas. For the sake of confusion and safety, parents are not
allowed to meet their child at the classroom at dismissal time.

We are providing a tag indicating how your child is going home. The
dismissal tag will be placed on your childs backpack, please do not remove!
Please notify us of any changes.

Send a note and/or call the office by 12:00 if you decide to change the way
your child goes home. Otherwise, no matter what the student tells us, we are
required to send them home the way you established from the beginning.

What is the "Kiss Goodbye Zone"?

The "Kiss Goodbye Zone" is a wonderful place for you to give your child a hug
and encouragement to begin their school day. For the first week, our zone will
be right outside of the classroom. However, after the first week, please look
for the "Kiss Goodbye Zone" in the Kinder Commons area (where the two halls
split).

It is expected that your child complete the morning routine independently
(hang up backpack, put folder away, make their lunch choice, and begin morning
work).

Students will bring their backpack each school day. It is the students
responsibility to get their belongings in the appropriate place.

My child has a birthday soon, what can I bring?

Due to the Food of Minimal Nutritional Value Law, we must celebrate
birthdays after the lunch hour.
You may bring any treat that is store bought, and we will celebrate birthdays
at 2:00 in the afternoon. Please e-mail me or write me a note so that I can
schedule the celebration into the daily plans.

Your child may pass out birthday invitations at school, provided there is an
invitation for every child in the classroom. It will go home in the daily folder.

How can we stay connected?

Please put notes inside the zippered pouch of your childs Daily Folder. I
will check it each day. Please remember I will not be checking backpacks. A
red school folder will be sent home on Tuesdays also with general school
information and flyers. Please sign on the designated line each week.

I check e-mail on a regular basis, and it is one of the quickest ways to
share information. Please feel free to e-mail me at anytime.

My school e-mail address is Heather_Gilbert@roundrockisd.org

Each week you will receive a classroom newsletter explaining our learning
experiences and activities.

We will have a parent conference in person at the beginning of October. This
conference will be to set your childs goals for the year and to discuss any
questions you may have.

My conference time is from 12:50-1:40 pm each day.

My school phone number is 424-8062. Please leave a message on my voice mail.
I will return your call ASAP. If there is an emergency, please call the front
office at 424-8000.

Please keep me up to date on all changes in your address (home or e-mail)
and phone numbers.

You will receive regular correspondence from me to let you know about our
days at school.

Will my kindergartener have homework?

Yes. Homework in kindergarten serves three important purposes. First, it helps
build on the concepts and skills your child has been learning at school.
Second, and perhaps the most important at this stage, it teaches your child to
be responsible for getting something from school to home, doing something to
it at home, and returning it back to school. Being able to accomplish this is
important for later school success. Third, it begins to build the very
important partnership between school and home. Please remember you have
completed kindergarten so homework should be completed by your child. 

Homework will be further explained at our Parent Information Night on
September 4 from 6:00-7:00.

Your child will be responsible for
Completing the homework in the time frame allowed
Turning it in their daily folder
Having it be their own work

How do I send money to school?

All correspondence and money from home must be placed in the zippered pouch in
your childs daily folder.

All money sent to school needs to be in a sealed envelope labeled with the
students name, teachers name and purpose for the money in order to be
readily accountable. Your childs lunch money must be placed in the zippered
pouch in your childs daily folder.
