4th grade is excited about Science! Our classes have studied weather
concepts such as Moon phases, cloud types, cold and warm fronts, and the
water cycle. Students have now begun to collect data on weather; they have
been assigned to keep a daily log of weather data for a month. Each day they
will record the high and low temp, the cloud type, and the moon phase. Not
only will this allow the students to see weather patterns,it will give them
the chance to participate in authentic data collection over an extended
time. We will have discussions about their findings and curiosities in class
as the month progresses.
The students may collect their temperature data from various sources such
as the news, the internet, a wii, an iphone, or the weatherchannel.com on a
blackberry. Some of you may even have personal weather stations at home that
will give your child even more than the required data. I have warned the
students that they should not rely on predictions for their weather data. I
will collect their data each friday morning to make sure that each child is
keeping up with the assignment. Students will get their assignment back
before the day is over so that they can continue to collect info over the
weekend.
Thank you for encouraging you child to be excited about Science!
