Which music teacher is assigned to teach my child?

Both of us! We love to teach and get to know every child in our
school. Your child will see Ms. Fizzell one week, and Ms. Albaugh
the following week. Occasionally, we might even combine classes
and teach together, such as when classes prepare for their
musical programs. This way we all learn and grow and sing
together.

How does my 4th or 5th grader sign up for the Longhorn Choir?

We will be sending letters and permission slips home with your
students shortly. Please return them to us as soon as possible
after they have been sent home. Rehearsals will be held Tuesday
and Thursday mornings from 7:20-7:50 on the stage, beginning
September 7.

Why doesn't my first grader perform in a musical program?

In first grade, we introduce many foundational musical concepts.
Class time is spent learning and developing skills which lay the
groundwork for all future music-making, leaving very little time
leftover in which to prepare a typical grade level musical. We
believe this time is well spent, and prepares students for all
future musical endeavors, including the 2nd and 3rd grade
programs, and the 4th-5th grade CRE Longhorn Choir.

My student is taking private music lessons at home. Can they perform in class?

Absolutely!!! We love it when our students perform for their
classmates! We ask that they inform either Ms. Fizzell
or Ms. Albaugh at the beginning of class that they would like to
perform that day. If they need to use their music, they may bring
their music books with them to class. We prefer our students to
play something they have practiced and learned well, rather than
"make up" a song in the moment- this is a chance to practice their
best performance skills!
