PEACE ROCKS Art installation for "No Place For Hate"

This Art Installation was on display for four days October 17-21. The kick off event was at 8am, Monday, October 17. Each child and staff member at CRE carried their rock outside and stood by their grade level for morning announcements in the shape of our PEACe sign. After the picture, each participant placed their hand painted rock on the rock map. On October 21, Each child at CRE went home with their handpainted rock! Each child was able to find their rock and take it home! NOT ONE ROCK was lost! We had a few close calls because a rock was turned over or it was under another one, but to our amazement...each child's rock was outside on display unharmed, untouched...just PEACEFUL!

Close UP of our student ROCK STARS!

Each child agreed to the Resolution of Respect for "No Place for Hate.". I promise to do my best to treat everyone fairly. I promise to do my best to be kind to everyone-even if they are not like me. If I see someone being hurt or bullied I will report it to an adult. Everyone should be able to feel safe and happy at school. I want our school to be No Place for Hate.

What did they paint on their ROCKS?

Each child painted their own version of what Peace looks like to them. Students painted sunshine, firends, family members, smiley faces, peace signs, colorful images and more! I am always so impressed of their ideas and artistic renderings!

Mrs.St.John teachers the best ROCK STARS in town!

I have been teaching for 17 years and this has been the most meaningful project that I have ever been blessed to be a part of! I wanted to start the year differently this year and painting on rocks is something I love to do! I was inspired by Mrs.Crain's theme, "Cruising through the Decades" and a story I saw...An artist is to hand painting rocks and has a goal to give away a million painted peace rocks and is asking people to just pay for the shipping of the rocks to them...they come in a little bag of 5 rocks or so. The artist is wanting you to leave them in special places to make people smile...on a doorstep...in the mailbox for the mail man...in someone's flowerbed...to leave them anonymously or not! I thought that was so clever! I went to the Austin Landscape Supply in Georgetown(1-800-TOP-SOIL) and told them I needed 1,000 rocks in my suburban QUICK. It was my planning operiod and I needed them right away so I could back for my kindergarten class. Ms. Annje smiled and said, "Honey, You need a dumptruck!' "Well", I said, " I do not have one of those!" She smiled and said, "Let me call the owner and see if he can dontae the delivery for your special project." He said "yes!"

PEACE ROCKS with over 1,000 Participants! Holding their ROCKS UP!

Mr.Heard took this picture! there are rumors that we had a plane fly over and take the picture. We had a plan in the works for that idea, but we went with the RRISD lift that the district owns and Mr. Jose operated the lift and went way up to get the shot! Way to go, guys!
