Dear Parents,
We are excited about the new school year. We are looking forward to having your children in our classes and learning more about their educational goals. We would like to share important information that will help our classrooms run smoothly this year.
Attendance
Attendance at school is important to your childs education. New concepts are introduced daily. It is important that your child be at school if he/she is not ill. If your child is absent, please call the office ((512)704-0707) and let the school know that he/she will not be in attendance. It is your childs responsibility to find out what they missed in class the day they were absent. Your child has the number of days they were absent to make up any missed work. The students must be in the classroom, ready to begin the school day, at 7:45 am. Students arriving after the second bell will be considered tardy.
Behavior
If your student makes a decision that is not healthy to the learning environment they will get a verbal warning from the teacher. If the student continues this decision they will need to fill out a Think Time sheet. This will give them time to reflect on actions they have made and time for them to decide what they should be doing in the learning environment. The teacher will write in the students planner think time. This will give you notification about your student for the day. Please see attached paper labeled Think Time for more information.
Daily Planner
Your student has a planner to write daily class activities and assignments. It is the students responsibility to ensure that the daily planner is initialed by a parent/guardian each evening. This lets us know that you are aware of what we are doing in class and gives you the opportunity to write down any questions or concerns you might have regarding our daily activities. The cost of the planner is $4.00.
Thursday Folders
A folder containing important information for you and your child will go home every Thursday. The folder should return every Friday with your signature in the folder indicating that you have seen the contents of the folder.
Homework is meant to be useful in practicing concepts taught during class. There will be assigned homework and an independent reading time every night. There will also be other projects assigned throughout the year, but your child will receive this information and due dates for each project. Your child will be given plenty of time to finish class assignments. If your child does not finish the class assignment it will be considered homework. Your child must hand in all papers on time. Students who come to class without completed homework will complete their homework during recess. There will be 11 points deducted from all late papers and five points deducted from papers missing the students name.
Classroom Expectations
Helpful, Engaged, Awesome Attitude, Responsible, Trustworthy
Snack
We will have a designated snack time this year due to our lunch time occurring later in the afternoon. We encourage you to supply your child with a healthy snack.
Failed Assignments
Students who receive below a 70 on any assignment will be given the opportunity to make up the 70. The maximum grade possible for corrected assignments will be a 70. Corrected assignments are due the Monday following the day in which they were sent home.
Sincerely,
