Will my first grader have homework?

Yes. First graders should be reading 10 minutes each night and record 2 titles
read in their planner. Additionally, students will need to practice
math facts and spelling patterns daily and will be assessed at the end of
each week.

In addition to the above assigned homework, you are always welcome to help
your child practice other classroom skills. I include current curriculum
information in my weekly newsletter. It is updated each Friday or Saturday
for the following week.

No. The fall conference is for the parents and teacher. In the spring, your
child will share his or her learning at a student-led Open House.

What is the procedure for picking up children early?

Upon arriving, please sign your child out in the main office. Staff in the
office will send someone to pick your child up from the classroom. We may
be involved in an activity and it will take a few minutes for your child to
gather up his/her belongings. Please add 5-10 minutes to your travel
plans. I can not release your child until someone from the office comes to
the door. Thank you!

How can I contact you?

The fastest way to contact me is through e-mail. Your questions and
concerns are very important to me but depending on the school related
preparations, activities, meetings, and/or trainings scheduled, a response
may not be sent until the next day. I appreciate your patience. I can also
be contacted on my classroom phone at 428-2838.

When are book orders sent home?

I send book orders at the beginning of each month in the Tuesday folder
(except for the months when the library has a bookfair). Your child's order
is due the following Tuesday or earlier. I will include a
due date at the time the monthly order is sent home. Please be aware of
this date so that an additional mailing fee is not added to your total by
scholastic. Thanks!

How can I deposit money into my child's lunch account?

You can deposit funds into your child's account on-line, visit the cafeteria
in the morning before school to make a deposit, or send money to me. Please
remind your child to give it to me first thing in the morning. All checks
must have the student's name and identification number along with a TX
driver's license number.

to participate in class parties and events. At the beginning of the school
year, I will send home a volunteer sheet. Please check off the things that
you are interested in being involved.
