Week of February 13

Dear Parents,

THINK, CREATE, BUILD … That’s what we’ll be doing Tuesday, February 14, as we problem solve our way through some activities with chocolates. The children always enjoy this event as they attempt to build bridges, boats, and tunnels, all in an effort to support the ever-popular…chocolate. Thank you to the families that sent in chocolates for our problem solving activities this past week and to my volunteers.  (As I am updating my newsletter from home, I do not have that list of generous parents with me.  I will be sure to recognize you later.  THANK YOU!) Please plan to sign in and be in our classroom on Tuesday from 9:30-10:50. The activities should take us right to recess. If anyone can’t make it that day, please contact Tomoko Yamamoto, who has volunteered to be a substitute.

RED HEARTS...The children just love sending and receiving valentines. Please have your child bring in their cards by Monday, February 13 so we’ll have all deliveries done and ready for Tuesday’s party.

P-A-R-T-Y…Our Valentine’s Day party is Tuesday, February 14, from 1:45-2:45. Please remember to sign in at the office to pick up your visitors pass before coming to the classroom. As always, thank you for finding childcare for your preschoolers. Thank you in advance to Dehna Richards for organizing and running our Valentine’s Day class party and to parents for helping at the party. The festivities will include make your own ice cream sundaes, a few exciting rounds of Heart Bingo, and the ultimate thrill…checking out the treasures that await in their Valentine’s Day boxes. I love watching the excitement that builds as the children tear open their envelopes!

I’VE SIGNED UP, MAYBE YOU WILL TOO... Family Fun Fest (our annual school carnival) is coming up on Saturday, February 25th from 2-5 PM. Mark your calendars for a great time for everyone in the family. In order to make it a success, we need volunteers to man the games, set up and clean up. You can sign up at www.canyoncreekpta.com/familyfunfest.php.  Also, if you have some leftover candy or small toys (like those from fast food restaurants) that you want to part with, please donate them in the Family Fun Fest box by the stairs so we can use them as prizes. Be looking for more announcements in the weeks ahead about other exciting events happening at Family Fun Fest, like Teacher Treats and the Silent Auction. If you have any questions or ideas, please contact Cory Vessa at vessacory@hotmail.com.

ATTENDANCE COUNTS, A MESSAGE FROM RRISD…Starting with Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten, every grade provides an important foundation. Missing just one day of instruction can be costly to the child’s academic future because the basic skills taught during these early development classes, such as letters, numbers, and reading, will be used as the basis in every class through graduation. Research has proven the link between daily attendance and success in classes as well as standardized tests. Children also learn other important lessons during these grades, which will help them in subsequent grades such as socialization with other students and understanding the routine of a school day. Additionally, encouraging responsibility through daily attendance will instill good habits students will keep into adulthood. Children who are successful are the ones who are in attendance for the full day of instruction. Every day your child is in school makes them more likely to excel and rise to the head of their class. Check the District’s website and subscribe to the District E-News to see periodic messages about the importance of daily attendance. Also, follow us on Twitter @Round Rock ISD.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Patty
