Mrs. Holden’s Classroom Procedures

7th Grade Math

Classroom procedures are meant to make us feel more comfortable because things will run smoothly and we will all know what to expect. You’ll find most of these are common sense.

Entering the classroom

  • If the door is closed, please wait outside until I open it.
  • When you walk through the door, it is time to become focused:

Take care of necessary business (get out homework, sharpen pencil).

                 Sit in your assigned seat.

  • You are “on time” to class if you are seated AND working when the tardy bell rings.

Warm-up Time

  • You will have warm-ups almost every day.
  • Check the agenda on the board and copy down homework into your planner.

Sitting at your desk

  • Sit upright and with your feet under your desk. No kicking other’s seats.
  • Keep your desk and floor area tidy.
  • Respect the property and learning environment of those around you.

Interacting with your teacher and classmates

  • Speak to everyone in the classroom in a respectful way, including guests.
  • Make sure the words and comments that you choose are respectful to everyone in the classroom.
  • Even though you may not be speaking to the entire class, the entire class is affected by your comments and you are responsible for your actions. Appropriate consequences can and will be issued to offenders.

Class dismissal

  • Clean up your desk and floor area.
  • When your class is quiet, organized and seated, I will dismiss you.

Teacher-directed class time

  • Sit facing the front of the room.
  • Practice active listening. That means I have your attention.
  • Raise your hand and wait to be called on to ask or answer a question.

Independent work

  • Sit in your assigned seat.
  • It is okay to ask a friend to explain something. It is not okay to ask them for an answer.
  • Keep the talking to a minimum.
  • Raise your hand if you need to ask me a question or come ask me.

What to do when your are finished with class work/test

  • Work on homework from another class.
  • Read a library book. Always bring a book on quiz and test days.

Entering while class is in progress

  • If you arrive to class late or have to leave the room and come back during class, enter as quietly as possible. It is not acceptable to share where you were, what you did, etc.
  • Quickly hand me your pass and take your seat.
  • Join in what the class is currently working on and ask me what you missed at an appropriate time.

Turning in assignments

·         Always turn in your best work.

·         Always be sure that your name is on any assignment that is turned in.

Asking individual questions

·         Ask individual questions (questions about make-up work, your grade on a test, etc.) at an appropriate time. If I look busy or am addressing the class, wait until a better time.

·         The best times to speak to me individually are before or after the bell rings, during advisory, or during tutorials.

Absences

  • Be sure to turn in work that was assigned just prior to your absence since we’ve probably checked it while you were out.
  • Handouts passed out while you were absent can be found in the folders near the door.
  • It is your responsibility to complete and turn in any work that was collected or assigned when you were absent.

Checking grades

·         Sign up for Home Access so you are aware of your current averages and possible missing assignments between Interim Progress Reports and Report Cards.

·         Exact grades will be posted every 3 weeks.

·         Grading policy:  homework/daily grades = 25%  tests & quizzes = 75%

Homework

  • Assignments will be posted on the board in class & on my TeacherWeb.
  • Please be aware that the posted activities/homework may change throughout the week as I see necessary.
  • If you don’t have your homework complete when it is due, you will lose 20 points the first day and 5 points each additional day until the assignment is turned in.

Group Work

  • You will be working in pairs frequently.
  • Be respectful to group members
  • Help each other when asked to work together...you are a math team!
  • Assigned students: please grab a group basket from the back of the room at the beginning of each class & return them at the end.

Calculators

  • Each calculator is numbered & has my name on it.
  • You will be assigned a number, and you are responsible for correct use and return of the calculator each class period.
