I grew up in El Paso, Texas and moved to Austin in 1989. I completed my
Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Texas at Austin in 1995.
This is my 17th year teaching Art at Canyon Vista Middle School and I really
enjoy being part of the CVMS Fine Arts staff and am blessed to be
working with such talented and fun students.
I live in Round Rock with my three daughters, our cats Dinah, Sam and
Princess and two dogs,
Kitty and Charlie. I spent the summer renovating my house (and still am),
relaxing at the beach, and riding roller-coasters at SeaWorld. I love animals,
working in the yard, and enjoy hanging out at Lake Austin and Lake
Travis with family and friends. I've always liked creating and looking at
art. My
grandfather was an oil painter and inspired me to be creative at a very young
age. I love to work in clay, draw, paint, scrapbook, swim and run. I enjoy
collecting Starbuck mugs and like to look for rare designs at garage sales and
thrift stores. Some of my favorite people, places and things are: trees,
turtles, VanGogh, Picasso, the Blanton Art Museum,
AMOA, Zilker Park and Lake Austin.
I'm looking forward to setting some new goals with my students and sharing the
art we create together.
See you in the Art Room!
Welcome to the wonderful world of ART! I believe all students have the
ability to create great compositions, and my classes are designed to allow
students many opportunities for exploring a variety of art styles, mediums and
time periods.
Activities include drawing, charcoal, pastel and paint, sketching, paper-
mache, an introduction to the basics of clay, pottery throwing and glazing
techniques, wire sculpture and more. Through these experiences, students
should grasp the concepts of the “Elements and Principles of Design.” My
philosophy is to expose students to as many art mediums as possible with the
intent of helping them, discover which materials they most enjoy, while also
discovering artists from different cultures and eras. It is my hope that
through this year, they will develop their skills and achieve a higher level
of artistic development and a better understanding of how art impacts our
lives.
Art is an outlet for students to express their thoughts and feelings,
leading them to be more productive and confident individuals!
