When should I keep my student home from school?

You should keep your student home from school when he/she is 
showing signs
of severe illness, including fever, irritability, difficulty
breathing,
crying that doesn't stop with the usual comforting or extreme
sleepiness.
Diarrhea or stools that contain blood or mucus.
Vomiting two or more times in 24 hours, unless a physician feels
the cause
of vomiting is not an infectious disease, and writes a note to
that affect
and the student is not in danger of dehydration.
Mouth sores and/or drooling until a physician or the health
authority does
not feel the condition is infectious.
Fever or rash or a change in behavior until a physican has
determined that
the problem is not caused by an infectious disease.

What is a fever?

Students with temperatures of 100 degrees or above should stay 
home.
Students who are sent home with temperatures of 100 or greater
must be
symptom and fever free without the use of temperature reducing
medications
for 24 hours before returning to school.

What are the rules on lice?

If your student has lice.  Please call the nurse's office at (512) 464-5507 to notify the nurse.  We keep track and if needed inform a classroom if there is a problem.
There will no longer be classroom checks, for this is disruptive to the learning environment.

What about immunizations?

A student must be fully immunized against certain diseases or 
must present a
certificate or statement that, for medical reasons or reasons of
conscience,
including a religious belief, the student will not be immunized.
For
exemptions based on reasons of conscience, only forms issued by
the Texas
Department of Health Services, Immunization Branch, can be
honored by the
district. Instructions for the affadavit to be signed by
parents/guardians
choosing the exemption for reasons of conscience, including
religious belief
can be found at www.ImmunizeTexas.com. No other forms or
reproductions
will be allowed.
Students with medical exemptions, a written statement by the
physician
should be submitted to the school.

Can my child take medicine at school?

Yes.  Your child can take medicine at school.  The required form
