Ways to Study Spelling Words

*Study spelling words using a multisensory approach. The more senses you can involve, the better the brain will remember. (Touch-trace the word in salt, sand, etc. Hear-Say the word out loud three times. Sight-Look at the word to learn it's configuration before writing.)

*Ask your child's teacher to provide the spelling list on Friday. This will enable two extra days of study time.

*Sky write the spelling words. To skywrite, stand and write the letter of each spelling word with large strokes using your entire arm. (your pointer finger extended will act like a pencil)

*Make connections with the spelling words. (spelling word-spin contains the words pin and in)

*When studying spelling words, segment the words into sounds. (Stretch out the word. example-bed (b-e-d) stop (st- o-p)
