Spring Pep Rally Practices
Since it is basketball season we will not be able to practice in the gym AND since 8th graders are in the cafeteria before school we cannot practice in the mornings. So, practices are currently set up for Monday, January 23 and Wednesday, January 25 from 3:30-4:30 in the CeVMS Cafeteria . Please help your student make plans to be there at least one of those days...but it would be great if they could attend both.
Spring Pep Rallies
The Spring Pep Rallies will now be held on Wednesday, February 1 . Students should arrive at the gym by 7:45 am . The performance times are 8:40, 9:35, and 10:10. Students will wear anything that is a combination of black, purple and white. Outfits should be in dress code. Students may stay in their outfit all day or they can change clothes if they want. Students are encouraged, as usual, to get their work ahead of time for the classes they will miss that day.
Black History Celebration
All 10 RRISD Middle School Dance Departments will select 10 students each to participate in the RRISD Black History Celebration. This event is OPTIONAL...it is NOT mandatory. Students who wish to participate will try out for this performance.
Interested students must attend one of the tryouts and bring the signed Student/Parent Agreement (which will be handed out in class) with them to the tryout. Tryouts will be held Tuesday, January 24 and Thursday, January 26 from 7:45-8:15 am and 3:30-4:00 pm on the stage in the CeVMS cafeteria . Tryout results will be posted on Ms. Popov's TeacherWeb on Friday, January 27 .
Students who are selected will be required to attend extra rehearsals before and after school the week of February 20-24 . The Dress Rehearsal will be on Friday, February 24 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the RRISD PAC and the show will be Saturday, February 25 from 2:00-4:00 at the RRISD PAC . Students must have transportation to and from all of these practices as well as the Dress Rehearsal and Show. Students will wear a T-Shirt that is provided, long black dance pants, black socks, and tap shoes that are provided.
Potential Field Trip
There is a potential Field Trip planned for the Spring Semester. Students MUST PASS ALL OF THEIR CLASSES for the 4th six weeks with a 70 or above to participate in this event. If it takes place, it will either be on Thursday, March 1 or Friday, March 2. Students will take buses during the school day to the RRISD PAC. Students will watch a performance by a professional dance company. Students are encouraged that they get the work in advance for the classes they will miss during this event.
We will need about 3 Parent Volunteers for this event. If you are interested in riding the bus to and from the PAC (and attending a FREE dance performance) please email me to let me know.
McNeil High School Spring Show

8th Grade Dancers have been asked to perform in the McNeil High School Spring Show! Students
MUST PASS ALL OF THEIR CLASSES for the 5th six weeks with a 70 or above in order to participate in this event. For those performing, there will be extra pratices involved the week of April 9-13th. The Dress Rehearsal is at the PAC on
Thursday, April 12 (Time TBA) and the show will be on
Friday, April 13 (Dancers arrive at 6:00 pm; Show begins at 7:00 pm).
