Ms. Popov wants to know all about you!
The Dance Information Sheet is more detailed than most because of safety concerns in dance class. Click here for the
Dance Department Information Sheet.
Dance clothes will be needed for dance class.
All students will need long black dance pants and black split-sole jazz shoes. Examples of these items will be shown in dance class. Until students get their dance wear they should wear a T-Shirt, gym shorts (please not too short), and some socks. All students should have their dance wear by MONDAY, OCTOBER 3.
Here are some ways to get dance wear:
- Purchase from DanzGear. This is the "no hassle" way to get dance wear. Dancers will try on samples in class, order through forms handed out in class, and items will be delivered through class. The company is based out of San Antonio and is a dance wear supplier for dance classes and drill teams in the Central Texas area. Please make checks payable to DanzGear and include your phone number and driver's license number. If paying with cash, please provide exact change. DanzGear Order Forms and money are due by WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 7. Click here for the DanzGear Order Form.
- Go to a local store. There are some local dance wear stores listed on the links page, but feel free to also use discount stores. Jazz shoes are sometimes available at Academy or Payless and long black dance pants can sometimes be found at stores such as Target. At the dance wear stores, sometimes they will give a discount if you mention that you are in dance in RRISD.
- Purchase online. There are also have some online dance wear stores listed on the links page. Be careful, though! Dance wear sizing is not like regular sizing...especially with shoes. Make sure you pay attention to whether it says larger than or smaller than street shoe size.
- Borrow or purchase used dance wear from a dance student. Do you have friends or family members that either used to dance or have grown out of their pants and/or shoes? This is definitely one way to get dance wear at a low price...or for free!
- Borrow dance wear from Cedar Valley. Be aware that most of the items are used, but washed and cleaned by Ms. Popov herself. Dance wear must be returned at the end of the school year or the student will be charged for the missing items. Act quickly! Once Ms. Popov is out of your size, she may not be able to get more of that size.
Dancers need tissues and band-aids!
The CeMVS Dance Department will gladly accept donations of tissues and band-aids for our dancers as we go through them quickly. Any size or shape band-aids will do...but dancers tend to like soft tissues.
A specific dance T-Shirt will be needed for dance class.
All dance students will need a Cedar Valley Dance T-Shirt. These shirts are specific to Cedar Valley and cannot be purchased at a store.
Here are some ways to get the dance T-Shirt:
- Order a new T-Shirt through Cedar Valley. Forms will be passed out in dance class. Each shirt is $10.00. Please make checks payable to Cedar Valley Dance and include both your phone number and driver's license number. Click here for the T-Shirt Order Form. T-Shirt Forms and money are due by FRIDAY, AUGUST 26!
- Borrow or purchase a used dance T-Shirt from a dance student. Do you have friends or family members that used to dance at Cedar Valley or have grown out of their old Cedar Valley Dance T-Shirt? This is definitely one way to get the T-Shirt at a low price...or for free!
- Borrow a T-Shirt from Cedar Valley. Be aware that most of the items are used, but washed and cleaned by Ms. Popov herself. T-shirts must be returned at the end of the school year or the student will be charged for the missing item. Act quickly! Once Ms. Popov is out of your size, she may not be able to get more of that size.
Intersection InformationIntersection is an annual collaborative performance of all middle school and high school dance students in RRISD. Click here for the
Intersection Information Letter.
Each year, a T-Shirt is designed for the event. This item is not required. If students (or parents or other family members) wish to purchase an Intersection T-Shirt, please click here for the
Intersection T-Shirt Order Form. If writing a check, please make it out to RRISD and include your driver's license number and phone number. Orders for T-Shirts are due by
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 6. Keep in mind that
we do not order extras. If you miss the deadline of October 6, there will be a few shirts available at each show for sale. Make sure you get there early if you want one. They go fast!
We also offer DVDs of Intersection for purchase. Again, this item is not required. If students (or parents or other family members) wish to purchase a video, please click here for the
Intersection Video Order Form. If writing a check, please make it out to RRISD and include your driver's license number and phone number. Orders for Intersection Videos are due by
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 11.
This year, Cedar Valley will be performing a novelty/jazz disco-themed routine! Students are to wear their own disco era inspired outfit. This one should be fun! Please keep in mind...purchasing items is
NOT required. If you don't have any disco inspired clothing in your closet or in storage, ask friends and family members. Outfits do not have to be authentic or vintage. Just look for fabrics and styles that were popular in the 70s...bright colored clothing, wrap dresses, jumpsuits, shirts with big collars, menswear as womenswear, thin belts, shiny necklaces, shiny fabrics, sequins, etc. Think Donny and Marie, John Travolta, etc. If your family does decide to purchase something for your dancer, I highly suggest places like Goodwill. With Halloween just around the corner they just might have the perfect outfit! Please keep all outfits school dress code appropriate. If you are having trouble finding an outfit, please let Ms. Popov know and she will provide something for the student to wear!
Hello CeVMS Dancers and Families!
The CeVMS Fall Pep Rallies will be held on Wednesday, December 8 in the CeVMS gym. We will be doing an encore presentation of "Shake Your Groove Thing." It is the same dance that we performed in November at Intersection.
Parents and family members are welcome to come to the school to watch their dancer perform, but please make sure you check in at the front office when you arrive. There are three opportunities that day to watch your dancer. Since ALL dancers will perform at ALL three pep rallies it does not matter which one you attend...I only list all of them so that you know when they begin. Please keep in mind that I do not know the order of the pep rally itself...so make sure you get there around the time it starts just in case we go toward the beginning of the pep rally. I wouldn't want you to miss your dancer!
The 6th grade pep rally begins at 8:35,
The 7th grade pep rally begins at 9:25,
and the 8th grade pep rally begins at 10:10.
I have sent an email to all of the teachers reminding them that the dancers will be missing their morning classes that day. I encourage students to get their classwork ahead of time to be proactive about what they will miss that day.
Please have your student arrive at school as close to 8:00 am as possible wearing their CeVMS dancewear (their Dance Shirt or Intersection Shirt, long black stretchy pants, and two black jazz shoes). The only exceptions are if your student is in band or they are a cheerleader. Then they will just perform in their band shirt with dance pants and jazz shoes or their cheerleading outfit.
Hair should be back in a ponytail. Makeup is encouraged but not required. Students are allowed to wear small jewelry...but not long necklaces or large earrings.
Dancers should bring another outfit to wear for the remainder of the school day after the pep rallies. They will have a few minutes after the last pep rally to change clothes.
