Daily Work
This typically consists of textbook activities, cultural readings, maps, short oral presentations, etc.
Quizzes
We will generally have at least one quiz per week on the material we are covering. These may be oral or written.
Tests/Projects
There will be three major grades every six weeks. These may be written or oral assessments. There will also be projects from time to time that will count the same as a test grade.
What if I fail an assignment?
A student who fails an assignment may retake that assignment or one covering the same material for the opportunity to earn a maximum grade of 70. The student must initiate this by coming to one of my weekly tutorial sessions (Monday 7:50-8:15 or 3:35-4:00) for the retake. Retakes will not be allowed during class. Students should take care of these issues in a timely manner and not wait until the end of the grading period to request retakes.
Absences and Late Arrivals
Absences
If you are absent, you should look in the makeup folder for the assignments you missed. Students should consult the handbook to be familiar with district policies regarding assignments missed due to absences.
Tardies
Students not in their seats ready to begin working when the bell rings are considered tardy. Students who arrive late to class due to business with another faculty or staff member should bring a pass from that person.
Discipline Policy
I like to maintain a positive, friendly atmosphere in my classroom. I have my rules posted and we review them frequently as a class. There will be times however, when issues must be addressed and disciplinary action taken in order to maintain an orderly, safe learning environment. Please refer to the Cedar Valley Handbook for possible disciplinary actions.
.
Rules/Expectations
Students need to be in their seat and ready to work when the bell rings. They must be prepared to participate actively in all class activities.
· Always respect others
· Bring all materials
· Stay on task
Learning a new language can be very challenging and a good deal of preparation and study time outside of class may be necessary to grasp the material. There will be homework every night in the form of written assignments or assigned study time to learn new vocabulary or grammar concepts. A minimum of 30 minutes per day outside of class for completing homework and practicing verbal skills is recommended.
