Math Grading Policy (6th Grade)

Grading Policy for 6th Grade

Six weeks averages are calculated using the following assignment weights:

25% Daily/Homework Assessments

25% Quiz Assessments

50% Test Assessments which will also include all fact quizzes being averaged together as one test grade

Grade Penalties for Late Work in 6th Grade:

  1. Work is expected to be turned in on the day it is due.
  2. In the event that an assignment is turned in late, it must be turned in before the final assessment for the unit to receive any credit.  (The final assessment may be a test, project, web quest, etc.)
  3. A major project will receive a 10-point deduction if it is late
  4. Daily work, that is turned in late, will receive a 10-point deduction.  *** If you do not turn in an assignment on the day that it is due, I will enter it into gradespeed as a "missing" assignment. Gradespeed interprets any "missing" assignment as a zero. A zero will really hurt your overall average, so it is very important to complete every assignment and turn it in on the actual day it is due. Once the late assignment is turned in, a deduction of 10pts will be taken from the grade earned and it will be substituted for the "missing" grade.***
  5. You may correct any failing grade up to a 70 by doing the following things on a clean sheet of notebook paper which MUST be stapled to the back of the original assignment/quiz/test that was failed: write the number of the problem you missed, show your new work & the correct answer (label the answer if it is a word problem and/or write the letter of the multiple choice answer along with what is written after the multiple choice letter), and turn it in by the final assessment for the unit (the final assessment may be a test, project, web quest, etc.). The 70 would be earned when all of the problems that were missed originally have been completed with the correct final answer. The student is only able to turn in the corrected assignment ONE time to try and earn the 70, so it needs to be done well the first time (no extra tries after turning it in to be regraded originally).
