Cedar Valley Middle School Grading Policy 2011-2012
We believe that all students are capable of learning and it is our duty as teachers to grow life-long learners and thinkers while preparing them for an ever changing 21st century world.
Six weeks averages are calculated according to grade level using the following assignment weights:
6th Grade- No Semester Exams
50% Tests and major projects (3 or more tests/major assignments)
50% Daily work, homework & quizzes (10 or more assignments) 1
Late Work Policy: On major assignments, a deduction of 10 points will be applied. On daily grades, a deduction of 10 points will be applied. Assignments must be turned in before a unit is complete in order to receive credit. _________________________________________________________________________________________________
7th Grade - Semester/final exams will account for 10% of the semester/final average grade. 2
55% Tests and major projects (3 or more tests/major assignments)
45% Daily work, homework & quizzes (10 or more assignments) 1
Late Work Policy: On major assignments, a deduction of 10 points will be applied. On daily grades, a deduction of 15 points will be applied. 60% Tests and major projects (3 or more tests/major assignments)
40% Daily work, homework & quizzes (10 or more assignments) 1
Late Work Policy: On major assignments, a deduction of 10 points will be applied. On daily grades, a deduction of 20 points will be applied. Assignments must be turned in before a unit is complete in order to receive credit. ________________________________________________________________________________________________
Elective Courses: Grading policies for each elective class are posted on individual teacher websites. Redo district policies will be followed as well as campus late work policies (at the corresponding grade level). No one grade will count for more than 20% of a student’s overall average for the grading cycle. Final exams will correspond with grade level grading guidelines.
Redo Policy: We will provide each student a reasonable and fair opportunity through various re-teaching options to make-up or redo a class assignment or examination (one time) for which the student earned a failing grade.
A student who retests or redoes an assignment may do so for a maximum of 70. 3
1Daily grade breakdown (ex. Labs/quizzes/homework/etc.) will be handled on a horizontal basis to ensure consistency.
2 Algebra and Geometry grading policies will follow the 8th grade policy. State law HB 3 requires that performance on the STAAR EOC exam will count 15% of a student’s overall average instead of the normal 10% at the Middle school level.
3 If a teacher assigns a mandatory tutorial session for purposes of redo or make-up/late-work and the student does not attend, a referral shall be written and coded failure to attend. That student will then receive a consequence from their AP
