Week 1:
Aug. 23rd - 26th Complete Information sheet and turn in Wed. A small binder
and 4 dividers are needed for the Health course. Begin Unit 1 Health skills.
We"ll be covering Lessons 1,2,&3 in class. On Wed. there is a quiz over
Lessson one and Friday there will be a quiz over Lessons2&3.The personal
information sheet needs to be turned in on Friday. Health Behavior contracts
will be intoduced and each student will begin working on theirs and this will
be due on Sept. 2
Week 2 :
Aug. 29- Sept. 2
A quick review of the health contracts and progress on those will be
discussed.Analzing media on health will be intoduced and all students will
bring in an advertisement from a magazine or newspaper article for Tues.Notes
on Lesson 5 Using Communication Skills will be given and Friday the health
contracts are due. A peer pressure research assighnment will be done in the
computer lab.
Week 3 :
Sept. 6 - 9
Setting health goals and making responsible deciaions will be introduced and
notes given. A review will be done on Thursday and Friday will be te Unit 1
test.
Week 4:
Sept. 12-16
This week we begin Unit 2 Mental and Social Health. We will be taking notes
on Lesson 8 on Monday. Tuesday will take notes on Lesson 9 and begin 10. Wed.
we rap up lesson 10. The permission slips for viewing "Dead Poet's Society
will be due Thursday. Begin "Dead Poet Poet's Society" Students answer
questions after each day's viewing.
Week 5:
Sept. 19-23
Finish Dead Poet viewing. Essay Questions due Tuesday. Read Lessons 11 and 12
and answer questions 1-7 Pg, 108 and also answer #9. Test Review on Thursday
and Test over Unit 2 Friday.
Week 6:
Sept. 26-30
Lessons 13-18 Family and Social Health (Unit 3) Friday will be group work.
Students will understand what 10 People Profiles look like. They will create
a skit to demonstrate the profile they are given
Week 7:
Oct. 3-7
Mon.Tuesday and Wednesday a guest speaker from Austin Lifeguard will speak
about self esteem, healthy relationships,marriage, abstinence and STD's.
Thursday there will be a video about Teens,Sex and the Law with questions to
answer. Friday there will be a test over Unit 3.
Week 8:
Oct. 10-15
Begin Unit 4 Human Growth and Development.Begin organizer over body systems.
Finish the organizer on Tuesday. In class read Lessons 20-24 and answer key
terms review at the end of each lesson. Test over body systems on Thursday.
Friday is health activity day outside.
Week 9:
Oct. 17-21
Begin Unit 8 Communicable and Chronic Diseases.disease powerpoint project
assigned. and rubric passed out. Students may work with a partner or alone.
Most work to be done outside of class but Monday and Tuesday their will be
library time to work.this project is due Oct.26. Turn in a hard copy of the
powerpoint along with the rubric and cites noted sheet. this week we take
notes over Lessons 44,45, 47,48 and 49. Test next Wed.
Week 10
Oct. 24-28
We will work Mon. and Tues.in the computer lab on projects. Wed. Disease
projects due. We will begin presenting the power pt. projects and continue
through Fri. A review will be passed out on Thursday and will have the test
on Friday over Unit 8.
Week 11
Oct.31-4
We will get back the test over Body systems and correct them. read Lessons 50-
55 in Unit 9 and answer Key Terms review which will be due on Wed. at the end
of the period. Review on Thursday and test on Unit 9 on Friday.
Week 12
Nov.7-11
We will begin Unit 5. Notes will be taken over nutriton and the impact on
your body. Tuesday will watch the video Health and Nutrition and answer
questions. Read Lessons 27,28 and 29. Answer Key Terms Review over these
lessons.These will be due Thursday.Friday we will view the video over Teen
Obesity.
Week 13
Nov. 14-18
Rubric for the Food pyramid will be passed out and students will work on the
powerpoint over the food pyramid. This will be due on Wednesday. Wed. and
Thursday we will present the powerpoints and do a cartoon drawing. Friday we
will see Supersize Me.
Week 14
Nov. 21-25
Review for Unit 5 test on Monday and on Tuesday take the test. Watch the rest
of Supersize Me
Week 15
Nov.28-Dec.2
Begin Unit 6 Tobacco and Drugs. Read Lesson 36 and do the Key Terms Review 1-
10 as well as questions 11,12,13 and 17.Tuesday review Lesson 36 and begin
notes over Lessons 37 and 38. The drug rubric will be passed out and
studensts choose a drug to research.This can be done with a partner or alone.
This will be due on Dec. 5.We will be using the computers for the research on
Thursday and Friday.
Week 16
Dec. 5-Dec.9
Present Drug projects on Mon. and Tues. Wed.finish the notes over Unit 7.
Receive the review over Unit 7on Wed. and turn this in finished on Friday.
Test over Unit 7 Friday.
