Happy Friday!
We have spent the last two weeks learning about seeds and plants. We have
looked at the three parts of a seed which is the seed coat, the embyro, and
the stored food. My children made the comparision to the chick eggs in
regards to the shell, yolk and the baby! We have seeds in ziplocs to
hopefully see the parts, but today I noticed that little fingers squished the
seeds!! Hum! Last week we planted Marigold seeds and most all have
sprouted. My plan is for each child to bring home a cup to plant in a garden
and watch them grow over the summer. Just as in our other units we are
learning about the life cycle of plants and how the insects help in that
process. It is so neat how all things fit together in our world. Lots of
connections are being made from our units this year! And we are also looking
at plant needs!
We said bye to our baby chicks on Tuesday! They were SO ready to go live on
a farm! I am hoping we get a picture or two before school is over to see our
little friends! Your child will forever remember the experience of watching
the eggs in the incubator, then hatching, and the growth process! What fun
learning.
Next week we will begin our next unit on the Solar System! It will be a fun
learning unit and I am sure I will learn some new facts from your child! If
you find any cool and interesting facts about our amazing Solar Sysrem, then
please send that into our room!
Our Language Arts block has fabulous work going on everyday. When it
is "Center Time", I always get an excited response! I think they like the
various assigned centers each day, and the anticipation grows! During this
block of time I am taking a small groups of kiddos for a reading box time.
We have so many materials for each student to read books that are "just
right", and some that are a little "stretchy".
The TPRI and DRA testing and will continue next week, and I will be able to
send home the results by mid week! They are great readers, but I ask that
the work on reading continues into the summer.
Track & Field day was so much fun! We did not even need a band aid!
We will have our End of Year Picnic on Friday, May 27th. Each child will
bring a picnic lunch and we will have some sort of fun activity! Mark your
calendars!
Monday, May 30th is now a school day to make up for the bad weather day we
missed Feb. 4th.
Warm Regards,
Susan Kruger
