Flag Raising - Veterans Day
In celebration of Freedom Week,
my 7th grade Discoveries students
wrote letters of appreciation to
currently serving soldiers in
Iraq and veterans of past
military conflicts. We received
an American flag from Major Derek
Tillemans, one of the soldiers to
whom we wrote, thanking us for
the warm wishes and prayers. On
Veterans Day, my students held a
special flag raising ceremony in
honor of Major Tillemans and
other other veterans using the
flag he sent to us. |

Lt. Daniel Garrison
These are a few photos sent to my
class from Lt. Daniel Garrison,
one of the soldiers to whom we
sent care packages over the
holidays. Lt. Garrison sent my
classes an Army Bear, American
Flag, pictures and a wonderful
letter of thanks. Lt. Garrison
paid a surprise visit to my class
upon his return. The kids (and I)
were in awe of him and learned so
much from his stories about Iraq. |
