Hello!
Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year at Deep Wood Elementary! We have updated
the curriculum in several areas this summer, so I cannot wait to start
sharing my new ideas with you.
I have enjoyed working with children in elementary schools for the past 16
years. I started as a paraprofessional in California working in Special
Education. I am certified in California grades K-12 with Special Education
Certification, in Texas grades K-8 including Special Education, and the
certification of teaching English Language Learners in the
English as a second Language (ESL)programs.
Writing is a huge part of every grade with TAKS testing in 4th grade. By the
end of the year, you are guaranteed to love it. We write across the subject
areas, but truly, the goal is for you to love writing and see how you can use
it to express yourself and share your ideas.
You will study science in ways you never have before. Focused, hands-on
experiences are a part of every unit we study in every grade level.
Reading is part of everything we do, but we will continue learning
strategies to make us better readers of all kinds of text. You will have the
chance to read fiction, non-fiction, drama, poetry, procedural writing,
persuasive texts and more this year.
Math is fun when you play games and do hands-on activities. With our new
curriculum and textbook series you are set up for success with real-life
mathematical situations.
I love to integrate technology into our lesson as often as possible. You
will have the chance to use many programs and tools to enhance the fun and
learning in your school days.
I'm excited about this school year and I'm looking forward to seeing some old
friends and getting to know some new families!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Gipson
