Holditch language arts Agenda

Welcome to language arts for the fourth six weeks.

Our reading focus this six weeks is:

Read literary texts both analytically and critically:

  • All classes will read a section of The Acorn People by Ron Jones to analyze for mood/tone in order to better understand the literary text.

  • First, 3rd, 5th, and 8th periods will read Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt and 2nd period will read Deathwatch by Robb White discusssing literary elements, theme, cause/effect, point of view.

Our writing focus this six week is:

This six weeks we will write:

  1. Tuck Everlasting: Choices on a Tic-Tac-Toe graphic organizer with multiple writing experiences
  2. Deathwatch: Create a magazine

Independent reading assignment (Due Friday, Feb. 5, 2010):

Periods 1,3,5,8: Extra credit:Find one story in the Language of Literature that we have not read. Read it and make a vocabulary flower of six words you learned. The stem can have the title and author of the story, the center of the flower would have your name, and each petal will have the word underlined in a sentence with context clues to know the meaning of the word: put the definition at the end of the sentence in parenthesis.

Period 2: Read one cluster in Survival. Authors use detailed descriptions to help the reader become part of the adventure, involved in the action of the story. First read the cluster and select the story that has a descriptive passage that enables you to be included as you read. Write the passage that helps you understand the character and empathize with the situation. Explain why you picked that passage and why it affected you the way it did.
