2009-2010 School Year

       WELCOME TO QUEST!

Curriculum

Our curriculum units in 5th grade involve concepts that will include Earth Science and Environmental Science.  In addition, students will be exploring further concepts of environmental conservation, and physical properties of the earth’s crust in a Fall field trip through Education in Action.  Students will also integrate economics, geography, history, language arts and science through our Social Responsibility Unit and engage students as investigative journalists to research and write about issues surrounding environmental impact of products, consumer choices and international trade.

In 6th grade, students will explore problem solving and Science through the design and building of model structures, Solar Science, Space Exploration, and Robotics. Our curriculum will initially explore these concepts through the integrating of social studies, language arts and science curriculum and is intended to provide a “big picture” involving the many contributions of Nobel Prize winners.  In addition, students will be able to culminate these activities through a field trip to NASA’s Space Center Houston in the Spring.

Grades

Content and Conduct can be interpreted as follows:

Content grades – A Quest grade will be awarded each six weeks based upon performance rubrics that evaluate organization, participation, work  completion, quality of work and special projects. Because of the in-depth study of the curriculum in Quest, a rubric point scale will be used for all projects. The final grade will be posted as follows: E (Excellent), S (Satisfactory), N (Needs Improvement), U (Unsatisfactory).  Students will also be expected to maintain their Quest binder with all class work throughout the school year and to turn in their projects in a timely manner.

Behavior– The conduct grade will be based on a school wide FISH philosophy and will be kept in accordance with the school-wide discipline plan. Communication reports and signatures for misconduct will be sent to homeroom teachers and notification to parents will be communicated as necessary.

Quest students will be expected to follow the Four P’s classroom behaviors as follows:

Be Prompt

Be Polite

Be Prepared

Participate
