When is my child allowed to go to the library?

Our weekly library time is Friday at 8:10. Each week Mrs.
Fournier will read stories or teach library lessons, and then we
will have some time to check out books. The library also hosts
many fabulous events throughout the year for families. Please
check the school calendar for updates.

What can my child eat for snack?

We encourage all children to bring healthy snacks to school.
Sweets, chips or other "treat" foods are not allowed. Please
remember that the kids are usually working and eating at the same
time, so please send easy to eat snacks.

When is a good time to meet with you for a parent conference?

I am available for conferences most days before and after school.
I always arrive by 7:20 a.m., so that is a great time to catch
me. On Wednesdays I am not available for conferences after school
due to faculty meetings. I am always available by phone and email
to discuss any questions or concerns you may have!

How much homework should my child be doing each night?

The rule of thumb for homework is ten minutes per grade level. So
for second graders that is 30 minutes, including 15 minutes of
reading. If your child is spending significantly longer on
homework each night, please let me know so that we can properly
address the situation.

What kind of books should I be reading with my child?

As part of nightly homework, your child should be reading a book
that is a "just right" book for him/her. When you are reading
aloud to your child, you may choose a book that is a little more
difficult for your child to read alone. At school we use the I PICK
strategy for choosing just right books.

I = I choose a book.
P = What is the purpose for reading this book?
I = Am I interested in reading this book?
C = Do I comprehend what is happening in this book?
K = Do I know all the words in this book?

Please encourage your child to use this strategy any time he/she
is picking out a book to read at home or at the library.
