Please sit down with your child every night to review basic math facts.
Knowing basic addition and subtraction facts by sight is important to your
child’s future. Counting money and telling time are also essential skills for
your child to master in second grade. Learning to tell time and count money
are lifelong skills needed for your child’s future. Please join me in
building a strong math foundation needed for your child’s success.
-Ways to practice basic math facts:
computer games magnetic numbers
flash cards calculators
dominoes math bingo
playing cards number lines
dice
-Ways to practice counting money:
*Allow your child to make purchases at the store. Use correct change or
count how much money they will receive back from cashier.
*Pay students for household chores. Students must trade in coins for greater
amounts.
*Play Monopoly or Pay Day and have child take the role of banker.
-Ways to practice telling time:
*Ask Santa for an analog watch for Christmas.
