Homework

Math: This nine weeks we are focusing on patterns, place value, and
comparing and ordering numbers.

Reading: DRA testing will begin soon. After all tests have been completed,
Home Readers will start coming home. These readers will be different from
the guided reading books that we will be using in the classroom but they are
just as important. These weekly readers will be handed out on Tuesday and
turned in on Friday. Please have your child read his or her reader OUT LOUD
to you nightly. This will increase his or her fluency rate as well as
improve reading expression and the recognition of punctuation cues. There
will be a reading log to sign every night.

This year all 3rd graders will be keeping all homework assignments in their
new Planner notebook. Please check this planner each night for special
notes and daily assignments, also sign it each night. They will also have a
red "Homework" folder in shich to carry worksheets, letters and notices.

Your child will take their planner and Homework folder home each night,
and need to return them signed the next school day. Being responsible is an
important goal in third grade, and the Homework folder and planner is an
effective method of communication between the teacher, student, and parent.
The student is responsible for writing down each homework assignment from
the board in class, putting it in their backpack, and returning it to school
the next day. If a student forgets their Homework folder or planner,
please DO NOT bring it up to school unless I call and request it. Library
books are due on Tuesday at 8:00 AM.

Spelling list given every Monday. If Monday is a holiday, the list will be
given the Friday before the Monday off. The spelling test will be given the
Friday after the Monday Holiday.

All addition and subtraction facts should be practiced regularly at this time
of the school year. This will help the children complete problems quickly
and correctly.

Read, read, read!
