Mrs. Wilson's Newsflash
One more day - can you believe it? I certainly can't! It's been a fantastic year and it is very difficult for me to "let" these children go. I love each and every one of them and I am so proud of the progress that they have all made.
Tomorrow, on our last day, your child may bring his/her yearbook and wear his/her class shirt. We will be signing each others' yearbooks (we will be signing ONLY the front or back pages of yearbooks) and 1st Grade shirts. Please let me know if you DO NOT want us to write on your child's 1st Grade shirt.
Wednesday - EARLY DISMISSAL - LAST DAY OF SCHOOL. I have not heard the exact dismissal time, but it is typically 12:40. ALL LUNCHES WILL BE MOVED UP 15 MINUTES TO ACCOMMODATE THE EARLY DISMISSAL SCHEDULE.
Friendswood Library is a great place to start to keep your child reading throughout the summer. Each summer, they give out reading packets and rewards for certain number of pages read. Last summer, there was a free pass to Moody Gardens Palm Beach (kids admission)! There are also several other "free" goodies (last year, there were Sonic and Whataburger Kids meal coupons). Just go to the Childrens' section in the library and asked the librarian there about the summer Reading Program.
I hope you find these useful!
I came across a couple of math websites that I want to share. They reinforce math facts in fun ways and you can keep track of how your child is doing. These are GREAT over-the-summer-get-ready-for-2nd-Grade tools.

As summer draws closer, please plan to keep your child reading EVERY DAY throughout the summer break. Research shows that children who do not read over the summer can regress significantly. On the flip-side, children who continue to read throughout summer can make significant gains in reading achievement. Those DRA scores can change (and often do) from one grade level to the next, simply because the children do not continue reading over the summer (or because they read, read, read all summer and the reading level goes UP!)
