Coach Thomas’ World History Syllabus/Expectations
Parents/students can reach me at tthomas@fisdk12.net
They can call the high school at 281-482-3413
It is my job to create a proper and positive atmosphere of learning and to
help my students be successful in all aspects of life not just “history” and
I hope I can help students feel positive not only about this class but
themselves, their school and their community.
The course will deal with many aspects of world culture especially in the
historical aspect; it will also deal with how the world’s history has shaped
the world’s current course of action.
All sophomores are required to take this course in order graduate and this
course is a TAKS based course, so the student will be taking the TAKS test
for world history sometime in the second semester.
1. Expectations: For the student to learn many aspects of history but
also many aspects on culture, current events/issues and citizenship.
2. Classroom rules: These have already been handed out, but just
remember to be consistent in following the rules and be responsible for your
own actions and remember there are always consequences for breaking rules.
3. Grades: It is social studies department policy that test grades will
count as 75% of the final grades and the remaining 25% will be quizzes,
projects and daily grades
4. Tests/Quizzes/Project/Daily Grades: Testing will be done only on
Tuesday and Thursday of any particular week. Quizzes can be given at any
time, there will always be at least 1 project every 2 weeks, this might be a
simple project that is done in class or one that is more complex to be done
both in and out of class
5. Homework: This is expected to be done and turned in on the correct
due date. Late work will result in lower grades or even a zero. If there
are circumstances that can not be avoided please let me know ahead of time
and I am always willing to “work” with the student.
6. Teacher Web: My website is as follows,
http://TeacherWeb.com/TX/FriendswoodHighSchool/CoachThomas/
The website will be updated by Monday September 1, 2008. It will have
the calendar done for the entire month of September by that Monday. Most
items will be presented on the website, such as assignments, partial notes,
etc. this will help with anyone who is absent.
Please feel free to contact me at anytime to discuss your child’s
involvement in my class room.
Thank you and I am looking forward to a great year.
