Homework

April 23 - 29, 2012

AN ALTERED BOOK ASSIGNMENT IS DUE MAY 1ST.

Art 1

Students will need to find a portrait of a person with an outstanding feature - such as an unusual
hairdo, a strange hat, making a funny face, unusual make up, etc. Rock Stars are great subject
matter for this project. The size of the face should be at least 6 inches - small faces will not show
enough detail. They will be shown examples of how to distort the face into the shape of a triangle, a
circle or elongated. They will be shown how to measure using these different choices. They will use
a #2 pencil and transfer the face onto their distorted shape. We will discuss the shape of the eyes,
ears, nose and mouth and how to draw them. They will also incorporate shading, including all the
values, onto their drawing.

Art 2 & 3

Students will work on their linoleum block reduction prints. We will discuss safety issues and how to
use the necessary materials for printmaking. Students will use a photograph to draw their images
onto a linoleum block. They may get their images off the internet or out of a book. They will carve
out their outlines and then print 15 copies of their image, using different colors of ink and paper on
each one. No two prints should be alike. Then the students will decide what parts of their prints they
want to keep as is and will carve out that part on their block. They will print over their first layer of
color. They will do this a third time so they end up with 10 multi-colored prints, with a few extra, in
case they get messed up.

Art 4

Students will work on a still life, using a directional line drawing. They will draw the still life and then
use art sticks to color them in. The lines of what they fill inmost all go in the same direction.

A.P. Students - All students should be working on their portfolios. STUDENTS SHOULD HAVE
MOST OF THEIR DIGITAL PHOTOS UPLOADED ONLINE. IT IS ALL DUE MAY7TH AND MUST BE READY
TO SUBMIT BY MAY 11TH.
