Howdy and welcome to class! I am thrilled to be here at Friendswood High School and am excited about the school year.  Here's a little bit about me...

I grew up in the Cypress area and attended school in the Cy-Fair School District where I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Cy-Creek High School. I went on to Texas A&M University (WHOOP!) in College Station, and I graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematical Sciences and a minor in Computer Science.

Before teaching, I worked for United Space Alliance at NASA's Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center here in Houston. I held various positions including Software Engineer, Systems Engineer, and ISS Flight Controller.  I enjoyed my time with NASA, but teaching has always been my passion, which is why I am here today.

I have been married to my husband, Christopher, for 3 wonderful years.  I love to sing and have a great passion for music and the arts. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my family and friends.

It's going to be a great year.  Please do not hesitate to contact me via the "Contact Mrs. Motl" link on the left-hand side.  Go Mustangs!

My Educational Philosophy

Nelson Mandela once remarked, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." I believe the purpose of education is to change the world. As a teacher, I am changing the world one student at a time, and my hope is that the student will go forth and change the world. When in the classroom, teachers are not just teachers. They play many roles including leader, parent, friend, counselor, coach, role model. No matter the role, I believe teachers need to be there for their students.  Teachers should be self-confident, motivating, fair, positive, good listeners, and have a sense of humor.  I believe that the classroom should be a fun, warm, and caring environment where students are not afraid to ask questions or say, "I don't understand." I believe all students can learn, but they need encouragement and positive feedback. Anatole France, a French poet, asserts, "Nine tenths of education is encouragement." As an educator, I will encourage my students to live up to the high expectations set before them, to seek out knowledge on their own, to become better listeners, to become problem solvers, to dream big, to work hard, and to learn.
