Coach Newsom's English IV
Grading Policy
Test grades (tests, projects, major essays) 50%
Quiz grades (daily quizzes, short writing assignments) 30%
Daily grades (homework, class work, journals, etc) 20%
Make-up Policy
It is the student’s responsibility to make up any work missed. The make-up policy is in the Mustang Manual, basically students have one day for each absence to make up the work. However, any long-term assignments (projects / research papers) are due on the assigned date without exception. If the student is going to be absent on school related business, I ask that the work be done and turned in prior to the absence whenever possible, otherwise the above make up policy applies.
Tutoring
Our department does tutoring on Tuesday mornings through Mustang Apps, but I am also available in my room after school Tuesday & Wednesday, before school Thursday & Friday if you need any help or have any questions.
Extra credit may be earned by writing reviews of new books in the library. See Mrs. Torrefranca for instructions. Only one book review per grading period is allowed for extra credit. Throughout the school year other extra credit options may be offered.
Late Work
As a general rule, no late work will be accepted. Things are due when they are due, just like in the real world. In extreme emergencies (death in the family, hospital stay, etc) something may be worked out, and will be handled at my discretion on a case by case basis. Failure to meet deadlines or do the work will result in either points taken off or an out right zero depending on the nature of the assignment.
Guidelines for Assignments
Blue or black ink
Loose-leaf notebook paper (unless typed and I really like it when it's typed :))
Writing on front side of paper only
Misc. Classroom Management Information (specific to this class)
1. NO CHEATING, NO PLAGIARISM. Some assignments will be designated as group or partner work, but for everything else do your own work & remember the FHS honor code. The penalty is a zero on the assignment.
2. Restrooms: Each student must sign out and take the pass, only one student may go at a time, but no one may go during a lecture or presentation. This is a privilege and can easily be taken away if you are abusing it.
3. Personal Errands: NO – Do not ask to take care of your personal business during class. Academic & Counseling issues must have a pass / note.
