Welcome to a new school year at FJH. I am looking forward
to teaching your child.
Course Scope and Sequence
These
yearlong courses will introduce technology knowledge and utilize students'
skills in creating projects involving this knowledge. These
are high school credit classes and after completion and passing the class,
students will receive 1 Tech App credit needed for high school. Projects are
chosen to address design elements
In
order to insure the excellent educational climate he or she deserves, I am
clarifying my expectations in the form of the class rules and procedures for
the year.
Class Rules
1. Respect one another and their things.
2. No eating or drinking is allowed in class.
3. Come prepared for class.
4. Listen with your mouth shut.
5. Being in your seat before the bells rings -- otherwise
you are tardy!
6. You are personally responsible for any equipment used in
class.
7. Uphold and obey the District's Acceptable Use Policy.
Grading Policy
All tests and projects will be recorded twice in Gradebook. Daily
participation and quizzes will be counted once.
Tutorials
Tutorials are every morning during the school week. However,
please note that it is wise to
talk with me prior to the day you would like to come in and let me know
to expect you. Often
times a teacher meeting or some personal emergency has come up and I may not
show up until school starts. Also, please feel free to schedule time with me
before or after school.
Procedures
Daily Supplies
Optional
supplies may include headsets and flash drives. If you
carry a notebook, be sure to include a divider for this class. I
will be handing out many sheets during the course of the year and you will
need these sheets for open note tests, to "remember" how to do something, etc.
Sources:
1.
Atomic Learning is a great source for learning all of the techniques used in
class. You must pay to use this program, but the cost
covers one year and I highly recommend looking into this program if you
believe you and your child need additional assistance for class.
2.
There is a class set of books for one class. Students
will be encouraged to use the books as sources for their basic skills,
however, there are not enough books to send home with every student in order
to study.
Absences and Late Work
Absences may make a difference in the students' individual class performance.
As there are no textbooks for students to take home for studying
purposes, understanding and being able to complete quality assignments in a
timely manner may become difficult.
As stated in the student's planner and in district policy, it is the child's
responsibilityto make up work missed
due to an absence. He
or she should consult with the teacher to find a convenient time at which to
make up the work.
Further, please understand according to school policy that students cannot
completely make up a day missed from school, regardless of the willingness of
all persons involved. According to state law, students in
attendance for less than 90% of the time, may not receive credit for
the class and may be required to make up that "seat" time as mandated
by an attendance committee.
7th and 8th Grade Nine Weeks: (Please see page 34 of the Student Handbook)
1st Semester = 78 days x .90 = 70.2 days (Allowing 8 days
of absences)
2nd Semester = 97 days x .90 = 87.3 days (Allowing 10 days of absences)
You will be notified when your child is in danger of losing credit because of
absences and will have the chance to meet with the attendance committee to
discuss your child's situation.
Makeup Work/ Late Work [Taken
from the Student Planner]
A student has as many days to make up work work as absent with a maximum of five
(5) days. If
a student is absent six days or more, all make-up work must be completed
within a maximum of five school days after his/her return. Otherwise,
NO CREDIT will be given for the assignment in question.
FJH'slate work policy
for 7th and 8th grade students is as follows: lose
20 points 1st rotation (=80, highest possible grade), lose 40 points 2nd
rotations (=60, highest possible grade).
