Entering the Classroom
Enter the classroom with respect. Backpacks and gym bags are not permitted in
my room for any reason! Please make sure they fit inside your locker. Do not
run inside the classroom- enter quietly.
If you are tardy, please enter the classroom quietly, sign the tardy book
(unless you have an excused note), go directly to your seat, get your
materials for class and get to work quietly. Three tardies result in an office
referral (FJH Policy).
Materials
The bell signals the beginning of class- not me. When the bell rings, you need
to have all materials (homework, paper, sharpened
pencils and pen) on your desk. You should be working on your warm up once the
bell rings.
Pencils will be sold for $.25 each with no change being provided. If you don’t
have a pencil and you can’t borrow
one, you may purchase one from the designated place. Again, you must have
exact change as change won’t be provided.
Assignments
It is your responsibility to write
down your assignment in your organizer daily. Unless you are absent, there
should
never be a reason for you not to know what
your assignment is- it is posted on the board, it will be written in your
organizer, it will be written at the end of your notes and it is available on
the teacherweb.com.
You WILL HAVE HOMEWORK ON MOST NIGHTS. If you are spending more than 30
minutes on homework a night
(on average), please let me know. Some assignments will be graded by me and
others will be graded by the class.
If you are absent, you need to attach your “WE MISSED YOU” form and put it in
the turn in tray. If work is late, you need to write LATE on the top of it and
put it in the tray. Late work will follow school policy listed in your
organizer.
Warm Up
Each day, there will be a Warm Up Exercise posted on the board, located in the
Warm Up tray, or displayed on the overhead projector. Once you have your
materials ready for class, and have written your assignment in your organizer,
you will begin your warm up. You will have 5 minutes after the bell rings to
complete the task.
Teacher’s Attention
To get the teacher’s attention, please raise your hand and wait patiently to
be recognized before speaking.
Student’s Attention
To get the class’ attention, I will say something like "Come back to me
please." Should there be an announcement during class, you are expected to
stop talking immediately so that we can all hear the announcement.
Absent
If you are absent, please see me for your work. Students are required to sign
for their absent work. Due dates will be discussed. Notes
along with any worksheets or special instructions will be included. Any work
collected the day you were absent should be turned in ASAP.
If a quiz or test was given on the day you were absent, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY
to schedule a convenient tutorial time to take the test or quiz. Test
and quizzes may not be made up during class time.
Tutorials
Tutorials are a great time to come in and ask questions
about material you do not understand. I will be happy to answer any math
related questions you may have. However, you must come in
with questions or areas identified where you want to improve. If you are
disruptive or if you are not doing math related work, you will be asked to
leave tutorials.
Tutorial times are Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM. If
these times are not convenient for you, please, speak with me about scheduling
an alternative time. There are times when a tutorial may be
cancelled due to my absence or a staff meeting- I will notify you in advance
if possible.
Leaving the Classroom
YOU MUST HAVE YOUR ORGANIZER TO LEAVE THE ROOM FOR ANY REASON. If you don’t
have your organizer, you won’t be allowed t o leave the room. (FJH Policy).
Restroom visits will be made before and after class and during your assignment
time. No restroom visits will be allowed during the learning time of class.
Locker visits are NOT permitted. All materials must be with you at the
beginning of class. I do not lend materials, so come prepared.
Nurse and library visits may occur at my discretion and you must have your
organizer to leave.
Class Participation
Be enthusiastic about the material you are learning! All assignments are
intended to contribute to your mathematical knowledge. Try your best and ask
questions! Helping your fellow students is important, but cheating will not be
tolerated!
If you get stuck on a particular problem, instead of leaving it blank, write
me a sentence or two with what you know, how far you have gotten, why you took
the route you did and what has you confused. The information will be very
helpful in determining how I can help you, and it will result in partial
credit instead of no credit!
