GT/Humanities - 8-1, 8-4
Miss Howard & Miss McCarthy will be working together on the
GT/Humanities “block” this year. Both classes (LA & History) are
project/task oriented with the needs of GT students in mind. Tasks will
often be split between the classes. A single “project” may stand for
grades in both classes with time given for research during both class
periods. Students will study literature of a time period when they learn
about the period in History. Students will be expected to transfer writing,
research, and other skills from one class to another.
GT students will have the chance to work in many kinds of groups
and to complete many different types of assessments throughout the
year. A high level of work quality and maturity are expected. Students are
expected to conduct themselves as professional scholars at all times.
PAP US History 8-3
PAP students will be working to improve their writing skills with
history content this year.This
should help to prepare them for the AP test. Also, PAP students will have the
chance to work in many
kinds of groups and to complete many different types of assessments throughout
the
year. A high level of work quality and maturity are expected. Students are
expected to conduct themselves as professional scholars at all times.
Miss McCarthy's US History is strongly task-oriented. We do not take
many tests; I prefer
authentic assessments and other types of projects. Students will watch many
videos this year, and
will work both individually and in groups.
TAKS-type items will be addressed throughout the year with
instruction on how to answer
these items and other test-taking strategies. Students will look at US Trivia
and will hear interesting
stories and readings dealing with the US (geography, history, culture) and our
historic personalities.
