Fall 2007

I will make every effort to keep this page updated; however, students should 
always record assignments in the agenda.  

Summer Assignments:  There were 2 summer assignments for Science.  One 
assignment was a brochure concerning lab safety.  The second assignment was 
a research topic of the student's choosing. Both assignments were due the 
first day of regular class (Aug. 28th) for students who received the summer 
packet last May.  For new students the deadlines are as follows:  Brochure 
due Aug. 31 and Research topic due Sept. 7.  Projects must be completed.  
Late projects will have points deducted each day they are late.
  
Week 1:

Week 2
Sept. 4 - Hurricane Tracking Chart due; Read pp. R6-17; vocabulary cards for 
mass, weight, volume
Sept. 5 - Equipment Chart - paste pictures and use word bank words to fill 
in names of equipment next to its function
Sept. 6 - Bar graphs- Make a bar graph for each table from your measurement 
lab.  This is due on Monday, Sept. 10.

Mon. Dec. 3 - SCIENCE FAIR PROJECT DUE; presentation in class for classwork

week 16
Students were given 9 vocabulary words dealing with Planet Earth last week.  
Students were also given back the Earth Science test from Week 14.  Grades 
can be improved by writing "corrections with explanantions" on a separate 
paper.  This means the student writes why the correct answer is correct and 
why the answer they chose was wrong.  Students can earn up to half their 
lost points back with adequate corrections.
Mon. Dec 10 & Tues. Dec 11 - Work on Planet Earth study questions and study 
Planet Earth vocabulary
Thurs. Dec 13- Vocab test and vocab card check
Fri. Dec 14 - Planet Earth test and corrections with explanations due for 
Earth Science test

Week 17 Dec. 17-20
Students will be given a grade report on Monday.  There will be no homework 
this week.  Classroom activities will conclude our solar system unit.  
Students will be given an extra credit packet on Monday.  Those students who 
want extra credit must turn in the packet on Wednesday, Dec. 19.  This will 
be done outside of class.  No late work will be accepted because grades must 
be entered before Thursday.

In addition, students have been given a comprehensive list of vocabulary 
words for the Fall Semester.  There are 85 words.  Students need to check 
their vocabulary cards and make sure they have all 85.  Thursday, Dec. 20 
will be a day set aside to work on vocabulary cards.  Otherwise, students 
should complete the cards over the holiday break.

Week 18 Jan. 7-11
Monday- Students should bring all 85 vocabulary cards to class.
homework:  6 vocab cards (organism, characteristics, species, life cycle, 
seed, germination). All definitions found in MU workbook
Review words:  mass, weight, volume, matter, hazard, control, variable, 
physical properties, waft, precaution (These cards have been done, but 
students will be tested on them as a review.)  Test is tentatively set for 
Friday, Jan. 11th.

Week 19 Jan 14-18
Jan. 14 - vocabulary test (see week 18)
Jan. 15-18 Stanford testing

Week 20 Jan. 22-25
Jan. 22 - review Earth Science principles and Experimental design

We discussed the Practice TAKS answers and began reviewing for Objective 1.  
Students were told that review sheets must be completed in class for each 
objective.  The information is written on the board for them to copy.  
During the test on each objective, I will check the review sheets and other 
items that need to be included in the Science Review folder.
