Our Valentine Party will be on Tuesday, Feb. 14th at 1:45. We are decorating
bags in our classroom. Please help your child write their cards and send
them with your child on Monday (or before Monday). A list of students will
be coming home today.
When reading with your child, please have them read the book and help your
child figure out (decode) unfamiliar words - there is a strategy page in your
child's Gator Binder. Once your child has read the book, have your child
read again for fluency (I model how to read fluently and then
have the student read). Last, please have your child retell the story in
his/her own words. All of these things will help your child become a better
reader.
The boys and girls are doing a great job with their take home journals. I
love reading the stories they have written. Please remember to look in your
child's Gator Binder to find the sight word lists.
Thank you for the snacks and the hand sanitizer!
Please have your child bring a sweater or jacket in his/her backpack - it
stays pretty cool inside our classroom. Also have your child bring a change
of clothes in his/her backpack. Remember tennis shoes for PE!

My name is Lisa Miller and I have taught for many years. :-) I have taught
2nd, 3rd and 4th grades in Tennessee and I taught first grade for one year in
Alabama. I have also taught first grade at Forest Creek Elementary. For the
past ten years I have taught first grade at Gattis.
I have a son, Thomas. He is four years old and he is a great boy. He is
very active and loves all types of sports. He also likes to swim and be with
his friends. He also likes to talk - a lot.
Again, welcome to first grade and I am looking forward to a great year!
