Susan Reynolds holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from San Diego State
University where she was named the Outstanding Graduate from the School of
Music and a Master of Music Education/Instrumental Specialist Degree from
Auburn University. She is a member of the Golden Key International Honor
Society and Phi Kappa Phi. She began her teaching career in San Diego, CA,
during which time she was awarded the coveted 1st Place Golden Bell Award for
the Outstanding Intermediate Instrumental Music Program by the California
School Boards Association. Since moving to Texas, her bands have won several
Sweepstakes awards and many First Divisions issued by the UIL. She has
taught students who have achieved All-District, All-Region, All-Area and All-
State honors as well as students who have won top honors at the Texas State
Solo and Ensemble Contest. Mrs. Reynolds' core beliefs regarding music
education are that music is not only benificial to every student, but is
necessary for their development as whole people. Supporting this belief is
the fact that her students have graduated from her music programs to become
teachers in public schools, lawyers, biologists, college professors, speech
therapists, military personnel, home makers, beauticians, medical
transcriptionists, etc.
Because the study of music is basic to the development of every student as a
whole person,
Because every student benefits from the study of music both during the study
and well after graduation,
Because the longer students actively study music, the greater the benefits,
Because music speaks to the inner person and helps each individual to
communicate on a level not possible any other way, and
Because music is sometimes undervalued by the general public,
It is the mission of Goldthwaite's music department to provide multiple
opportunites for students to study music theory, history and performance in
order not only to develop the whole person, but to heighten awareness as to
the necessity of musical study.
